Thanks for sharing
I can't find the post anymore. Has it been taken down?
Here u go~
http://theindependent.sg/students-mother-writes-in-to-question-the-education-minister-on-why-the-psle-has-to-be-so-difficult/
The writer said her son is dumbfounded by EVERY question in paper 2. This sounds like the child suffered an anxiety attack during the paper more than anything else.
DD1 suffered anxiety attack during her prelims maths paper so didn’t do well. It was then I realized I might have given her too much pressure/undue stress unknowingly. On the other hand, I was also glad that the anxiety attack did not happen during the actual psle.
2017 PSLE Maths paper , there was this “Ribbon question” I think more than half the cohort got it wrong. My daughter got it wrong too. After I assessed that question, it is not that hard just that she didn’t think carefully. -

True, but sometimes it's easier said than done when the expectation they gather from past years' papers and top school papers is that Q1-8 are very achievable qns. Kids being kids, they might panic on why they are not breezng through them and naturally so since it's their 1st national exam.
Poor exam techniques. One question don’t know how to do, SKIP !!whitecarrotcake\" post_id=\"1938816\" time=\"1569890302\" user_id=\"114080:
Again my 2 cents....
My analysis on why the hoo-ha over this year's Maths paper which other years' parents cannot understand as they weren't given the full picture.....
Q7 egg tart qn is a reasonable qn but it should be placed from perhaps Q10 onwards. Also one or two other qns in front which should have been placed after Q9. The sequence of qns is important during exams.
When the \"tough\" qns(in the eyes of the average kid) are placed in first 9 qns, they add to the anxiety and trigger a panic to the already nervous children. Then a vicious cycle occurs where they get panicky and cannot think well esp when working against the clock.
If the sequence of qns is such that the front 9 qns are \"familiar my pals are here type of qns\", the child gains confidence and they can handle subsequent qns better. That's the difference between this year's and previous years' papers - the level of difficulty is not progressive.
Don’t stare at the question and spend all your time and energy trying to solve it. Move on to look at the other questions and get all the points that you can first.
I'm speaking this objectively. My girl, fortunately, had no problems with the front 14 qns and the last qn. However, I do feel for those kids who were thrown off by the less familiar qns in the 1st 8 qns. -
May I know where can I find more of this pattern type of questions to practise?

Agree. The paper was not hard for your everyone. You need not be GEP to find it a reasonable paper. As long as you were well prepared for the maths psle you would have found it totally manageable. Many students who worked hard for an exam of this calibre feedbacked it was totally manageable they finished well within time n even checked twice.hazeline\" post_id=\"1938792\" time=\"1569884237\" user_id=\"18065:
I am just puzzled why is it that you had mentioned repeatedly that this year paper is not fair due to MO type of questions. Because, from what I see, the questions which came out are within expectations. While there are more challenging questions, I think they are there for a purpose. And that is to differentiate the A* from the A students.hazeline,
Yes, many 2019 P6 parents are fully aware that \"Pattern\" fall under Heuristics, came out in 2016 PSLE before, as well as in certain Prelim Top schools too. As such, before sitting for 2019 PSLE, many P6 students had already practised \"Pattern\" before.
Reason being -
several primary schools' class Maths Teachers in Singapore would have gotten all their 2019 P6 students, to practise full PSLE paper, for past 3 years, or even more. Teachers even request students to buy PSLE booklet (2016 to 2018), sold at $1 per booklet, from their school bookshop.
Is not that they do not know, nor is it that they did not practise enough \"Pattern\" questions
No amount of writing to the minister or moe is going to change the fate of the weaker students or those who didnt revise sufficiently from end of p5 to work for these exams.
Its 10% intelligence 90% hard work.
Good luck for the results n postings. You will get n end up where you deserve to be. Hard work will pay off.
Based on the standard of past year PSLE Math papers, I too feel that this year’s paper is set within expectations. DS is neither GEP nor MO standard. He’s not even in the top class and is usually in the 80+ range. But he found the paper manageable and got all 3 “challenging questions” correct. It all boils down to practice. Compared to some of the really tough papers eg. Rosyth 2019 Prelims, Maha Bodhi 2018 SA1, this PSLE paper is really not that bad. -
How about Science paper today?

Congratulations… its officially over for many of us.
