TBH, 1.5hr is not a very long journey
Have trial the journey last weekend and it took us 1.5hr to and another 1.5hr back. Shacks!
I persaude DS to give up but he said he can try travelling. But this is not a try thing, it's a 6 yr committment
Will talk to him again...if he still insist, i might need to shift house. I cannot imagine a 12 yr old kid spending 3 hrs on the road daily.
Or anyone got private transport lobang?
:siam: -

it could be better to create a whatsapp group after people all decide their acceptance. Then maybe you can easily find people living nearby.

We also stay in the east and there are many NUSH students who stay in the east including far east like Pasir Ris and Changi. We were also very apprehensive at first but this was DS dream school and he wasn’t going to let travel time get in the way! (DS had other CO offers from IP schools much closer to home but he was quite adamant about NUSH.)

What surprised me is that the students cope very well and are very enthusiastic about school despite the time spent on the road. My DS and his CCA mates stay till 1030 pm for CCA that means > than 15 hours in school yet they don’t seem to mind and coped well physically. I think these teens can handle it much better than we think. The crux is they must be passionate about the specialised curriculum.
Having said that, we carpool with other parents so it is only 30 mins journey. This is probably the best arrangement and it won’t be too difficult to locate other NUSH families staying nearby. -
Hi all, thanks for the advise here. Perhaps it’s us parents who are worried if it’s too tiring to spend so much time on the road. Current Primary School is only 15 min away.
The father work at Changi so it’s virtually impossible for him to send DS to school.
So hopefully there will be some private transport that we can share. -
Curious, may I know if there is acceleration for computing studies? Ty

So far I have not come across any student who has accelerated in CS but quite a few students from Year 5 onwards are attending NUS modules every year.
Curious, may I know if there is acceleration for computing studies? Ty
The CS teachers are very proactive and CS is one subject where seniors are actively helping out in NOI and IOI trainings.
I will ask DC about the acceleration tonight. -

IMHO, you are over-protecting your kid. Time to unleash him as your boy would be transform from Day 1 of his experience in NUSH. It's a brand new beginning for him in a STEM environment. He will be experiencing and embracing new challenges all by himself for himself. let your kid grow. You will be amazed at the end of the 6 years.
There is school bus to the school, but not for return as everyone end at different time. Some parents also try to group together and share transport.myrick88\" post_id=\"1940393\" time=\"1570578306\" user_id=\"6175:

There is no official acceleration for computing studies (at least for yr 1). However, there is a pull-out class. I think this year there are 6 students in the comp sc pull out class ... they cover mainly C++ and Information Olympiad type of problem. Yr 2, there is elective for those who like to focus more on comp sc.
Curious, may I know if there is acceleration for computing studies? Ty
Pull out class are usually conducted after the core modules... usually for 2 hrs a week, but will have quite a bit of homework, and they have a whatsapp group that the students can post questions to ask the teacher. Usually there is also test at end of each semester to gauge whether the student is able to cope with the work and continue either with an acceleration or pull-out.
