The short answer is yes. The long answer is it’s not so straightforward.
DD2 said she it was compulsory to fill in at least one UG in the CCA form. She put it as her last choice.
Just wondering, nowadays, does joining a “eng” CCA diminish the chances when it comes to applying for scholarships?
Say, you decided to join an “Eng” CCA. In order to be scholarship material, you clearly can’t be an “Eng” “calefare”. You will likely have to be one of those Exco members and being a leader of a CCA (never mind that it’s supposedly an “Eng” one), you will probably be “encouraged” to attain symposiums, talks, dialogues etc. If you are scholarship material (or school wants to build you up for scholarship), you will also likely be given ECAs on top of CCAs to beef up your resume. Hence, your supposedly “Eng” may be tasked to lead not so “Eng” projects. The challenge is, however, finding that number of projects to build someone up. At the end of the day, if there low lying fruits (a sportsman, an award winning dancer, etc), school / teachers (like most human beings) may just pick the simplest solution. Not all schools have dedicated resources to help students to win scholarships. -

Depends on what scholarship and offered by who. My Friend who works in PSC scholarship dept says ultimately it’s still academic prowess they look at though admittedly they started to look beyond the top 2 JCs.

For commercially offered scholarships, I feel all-roundedness is perhaps more impt. -

Similar to working life. If boss think you got potential and want to groom you, will be tasked to do projects. If not, must oneself volunteer.

Academically, as long as your gal isn’t all C and D, I think she has a super good chance of winning a scholarship. You can refer to the PSC chairman’s letter from 2013 to have an idea of the kind of “scholars” that the civil service is currently looking for:

P/S: The letter was written before SOTA produces a President Scholar (they have 2 now). Many scholars today have less than a perfect score but all, if not most, have a good story about themselves to tell. -
