So true. Last year was a good example. Know parents of a boy, 26- something around there and even though making it for previous years cut off, that year he couldn't get into RI or HCI although they were top choices. Too many things to worry about and we are trying to keep DD grounded this year. For now we will cross that bridge when we get there, hai.
This is my suggestion, don’t over-think now.joycu\" post_id=\"1902532\" time=\"1552472555\" user_id=\"176267:
...
So that's why we are faced with this manner of thinking.
Here’s the elephant in the room. You can be looking at RGS or NYGH but you may well end up with CGSS when the result is out. Nothing is ever certain, not even for the top-est student. Thus to avoid disappointment, best not to get yourself lock into any school at this point.
Initially we wanted RGS and so did DD. But we heard RGS IP Programme is very different from other IP Programmes. They have their own way of doing things.
We will check out the open house 😍 -

Thank you! I am reassured hearing about your RGS experience and your DD too. No DSA, but we have fingers crossed on PSLE.
Yes, she is enjoying herself at RGS tremendously, and I do see that she is carrying herself well and more confidently (humble yet self-assured). At first, like you, I was worried whether she can adjust to a different culture/environment, and thought that maybe going with the familiar would be better, but that was unnecessary. She made great friends whom they study together, make notes together, play together, laugh together, and encourage each other when the going gets tough.joycu\" post_id=\"1902538\" time=\"1552473167\" user_id=\"176267:
Did your daughter enjoy the Raffles Programme? You hit the nail on the head. I like RGS because they are confident. I do think as parents we all know how good it feels to mention the Raffles brand too.
I'm worried about how strict NYGH may be and if it'll stifle her creativity, which was not an issue for us in primary school but becomes one in secondary school. But NYGH is the top girls' school and one gets the sense that times are changing... This is too stressful on top of PSLE and CCA commitments .
Hubby is quite senan about the whole exercise. Me, I'm the one. Maybe because I know how hard it is for working women!
I don’t think NYGH will stifle her creativity, maybe more subdued in terms of self-expression for some, but they are all fine ladies. The school has strong traditions so the girls would turn out well. For my younger girl, it would be nice to see her develop in this way
Are you planning to DSA? Have you gone to their open house? Open house will give you a sense of the school’s curriculum, educational approach and vibes. Best if you have good friends whose daughters are in either schools, then they can provide you with a more personal, hopefully unfiltered version of their daughters’ experiences.
You may not need to decide now which school to go. If you are planning for DSA, try both schools if you can, and wait for offers before you decide. If via PSLE, then you have to see if your girl can meet the COP. Last year’s COP for RGS is 259, NYGH is 258 (including HCL bonus), and for NYPS girls’ affiliation is 250 (also including HCL bonus).
All the best to you and your dd! -

I'm sure each IP programme has its own distinctiveness, and no two IP programmes are the same. MGS programme would be quite different from NYGH as with SCGS, NJC, Dunman High etc.

How is the NYPS school-based care services? Any parents to share their current experience?
Is it easy to get in or is there a waiting list? -
Hi everyone, first time dad here. Wife is a former pupil of NYPS so NYPS is naturally one of our options for our DS.
Would just like to check any parents with kids in NYPS and stays quite a distance away in the east such as Punggol/ Sengkang/ Hougang/ Tampines/ Pasir Ris/ Bedok/ Kembangan/ Eunos/ Geylang/ Paya Lebar/ East Coast/ Marine Parade etc, how do you manage the distance? My main concern is spending too much time travelling, which cuts into rest/play/homework time.
Some additional details about our current situation:
- we stay in Sengkang, drives, and works in CBD area
- we are likely to send our DS to NYPS in the mornings if he ends up there
- our parents and siblings (in Punggol) are unlikely to be able to help take care of DS after school
- we currently have a full time helper whom we trust to take care of DS on her own but unsure if she will continue to work for long given DS will only start P1 in 2025.
- we are aware of a after-school care for NYPS but unsure of its availability and chances of us securing a slot for DS eventually
- we are open to moving but just too many variables (tenure, location, price, size, distance to (school, work, parents), etc) to be able to find a suitable property
Hope other parents here who are in similar situations can share with us their experiences on how they eventually coped!
Thanks in advance!

Hi like to understand for the P6s, how are the academic awards prizes determined? Only based on prelim results?
What would be the minimum overall prelim results to have a chance getting the academic award? Much thanks for sharing! -

Which award are you referring to? The TOP 5 HA awards depends on the classes, HA , MA or GEP classes. The various subject awards for the whole level usually is 95 or above, then one will stand a chance. -
