P1 child alone at home? Better not, a bit too young.

The staff in the after school care will usually have a timetable for the kids. The staff will help with homework and revision, then there is a playtime too.

I like having a timetable because it helps young children to get organised and get things done.

It is best you visit the centre and check out the schedule.

Thanks 12mum. Not alone at home. There will be adult. But if after school care has revision and timetable, sounds good. But then, this is not the primary’s school’s after school care. It’s actually the child care centre he is attending now

If you leave your child at home, ask the adult to follow the timetable you have for him. If can't follow timetable, at least stress to adult and child that must finish homework, revision first before playtime.

I have a timetable but sometimes will close one eye when my ds said he is tired and don't feel like doing work or I want to bring him out for a treat (only once in a while) 😂

Some primary schools hardly have homework, tests etc for p1 kids (eg my dd's school) while others will have a fair bit of work to do. So the earlier the better it is to get him into the habit of work first then play. 😄

You need to ask the centre what sort of help it can give to your son. Eg can the teachers handle the p1 work, will your son be in the same class as the k2 or with other primary school kids.

For me, I prefer to let my child stay at home with an adult and use the money for enrichment lessons.

I feel that it depends on the after school care. I feel that is better then wasting time at home doing nothing and squeeze everything on weekend. But only if the after school care is good. I seen alot of smalls after school care, no space, not enough food, no place to rest…
