From what I know, you won’t change classes. My dd is in sec 4 O lvls. She has classmates who drop A maths or a science. Dont think they have to change class in sec 3-4.

Hi! I am a Newbie here at the forum… Would anyone be able to share how is the IP experience like for the SC girls starting from Sec 1? How is the DSA Academic (English) like and the commitment needed/or the

Hi, understand that there are currently 4 O Levels and 4 IP class at SCGS. May I know for IP Class, what is the typical proportion of girls from SCGS Primary. I understand that for schools like ACSI and MGS, the IB classes typically only have about 25% of students from ACSP/J and MGSP.

My daughter is in Sec 1 IP. Her class of 30 has 7 girls from SCGS (Primary). SCGS (Primary) did very well for PSLE last year, hence more are in IP. For the current batch of Sec 2s, I believe it was fewer than 7 SCGS (Primary) girls in each IP class when they were in Sec 1.

Can I clarify what you mean by SCGS primary having done well last year and hence more in IP. Do you mean that most years, majority of SCGS Primary girls end up in O Levels stream?

Also, what is the demography of your girls Sec 1 class? Are they mainly from the Bukit Timah Stretch Primary Schools like RGPS, MGPS and NYP or is there any particular school with seemingly more representation?

Finally, if you would indulge me, I saw in the post that COP for SCGS was 252 for both O levels and iP. Is this true? If so, why would a student who obtain 252 opt for O Levels rather than IP.

I am not privy to the full SCGS Primary School PSLE performance. However, last year’s P6es did well and my impression is more of them could qualify for IP. There are also SCGPS girls who do well for PSLE and opt to go to other Secondary schools like RGS, NYGH etc.

SCGS’ O level performance is very strong. If you are in IP stream, you will have no choice of JC; you must proceed to EJC. Some girls, whether from SCGPS or not, who qualify for IP programme, will choose opt for O level programme for flexibility after Sec 4. SCGS’ O level programme is very strong; the girls do very well at the O levels. If you do well, you can proceed to any JC of your choice; some SCGS girls also opt to go overseas after Sec 4, and O levels does open doors to sixth form colleges / A level colleges in the UK etc.

There is no affiliation to the IP programme; affiliation is only to the O Level programme. Hence all the vacancies for the IP programme (assuming 30 per class, so 120 vacancies) are for students from any primary school, including SCGPS, and to DSA girls. Non-DSA girls must meet the COP of 252 (for the batch of Sec 1s 2019).

The O level programme places (assuming 120 or thereabouts), for the batch of Sec 1s 2019 and before, prior to MOE’s policy on ensuring at least 20% outsiders, SCGPS girls who score 220 and above and opt for SCGS Sec O levels are given priority. Hence, many places in the O level programme are taken up by SCGPS girls. Plus, SCGS O level programme also takes in DSA girls. Hence, the number of vacancies left for S1 posting is quite small, which results in a COP that is similar to that of the IP programme (which has a lot more vacancies for the S1 programme as there is no affiliation priority).

SCGS IP classes are very diverse. No concentration from any primary school / Bukit Timah primary schools. There is also racial diversity. The only school with seemingly more representation is SCGPS.

My daughter also went through the deliberation whether to opt for O levels or IP. Actually it was a tough decision between MGS IB, NYGH and SCGS for us. When she eventually chose SCGS, then we had to decide between IP and O levels. She is the only girl in her primary school in SCGS IP her year (there was another girl who is in the O level stream).

Therefore am I right to say that for the IP program, there are almost 3/4 of the class from other schools? Did you Daughter have any problems fitting in since she was not from affiliated school?

It’s surprising that there are girls who meet the IP grades and yet choose the O level stream. I suppose it’s not a norm? Is the fact that EJC is new a factor why they choose O level? With 2 batches of A levels students graduated with reasonable results, has that anomaly changed? Meaning your daughters batch, did she see less or no students taking the O level stream if they meet the IP COP?
It’s just something i am surprised and mean no insult to anyone. IP seems like the buzzword nowadays.

For any trend data, it’s best to ask the school, or find out from parents with girls in other levels. I have shared about my daughter and her class but I would not know how many SCGPS girls will opt for SCGS IP or O levels in subsequent or previous batches. The girls generally do not go around comparing PSLE scores.

The 1st batch of EJC students only received their A level results in Feb/Mar 2019. When we made our S1 choices in Nov 2018, we had no idea how EJC would fare.

In every Dual track school whether MGS, ACSI, SCGS etc there are kids who meet the IP COP but opt for O levels. I would not have the numbers who do so but I dont think the numbers are large. Again you can check with the schools if you are interested.

My daughter was not from affiliated school but she did not have any problems with adjusting to SCGS.

May I inquire what are sixth form colleges or A level colleges in the UK? Are you referring to boarding school and can you suggest some good names? I'm also not sure if UK boarding school is a good thing entirely, as Brexit makes it harder to get jobs in the UK.

Also, does anyone here know whether EJC produces PSC scholars or whether girls progress to Med / Law school, or whether many end up in Humanities in university?
