Does anyone know about appeal process for psle? Asking for my relative's kid. Got one subject really shocking. Specifically, if they appeal, is there a chance t score might come back even lower? Of course, we are hoping for higher, and that subject go up one grade. Tried looking at moe FAQ, but it did not provide details.
You have to appeal though the school. There’s an appeal fee to be paid.
However, I have never known of any successful appeal that manages to change the outcome of the result - original result / paper had already gone though 3 rounds / markers that the likelihood of them making an error is extremely low, almost zilch. -
I’m a newbie to this platform but am glad to find my way here!
My eldest daughter just received her psle results yest, she got 252+2(HMT). For IP, she has very limited choices in the West, will be either SCGS or RVHS. As I’m also new to choosing sec school, appreciate some help…
1) SCGS is an independent school while RVHS is a govt school. One of the key difference i can see would be the school fees, independent is more than 10 folds! Many had shared that there is difference in independent vs govt school (the extra $$$ paid is justified). Any thots to this…
2) If my daughter gets into SCGS IP, does it mean she is confine to go only EJC? Can she request for transfer to another JC at a later stage, let’s say HCI? If this possible, would it be the secondary results be the justification? -

Hi
May I know what is the cut off point to qualify for foreign language this yr? Or is every year the same number?
Are you referring to Cat 3 third languages? -

I did this analysis once.
Hello, I am new.
Just want to hear from some mummies here / school of thoughts for sec school with a wide COP vs a smaller range of COP.
~ wide range better/ narrow range
My personal tot: Maybe that wide range, eg. 220-254. Maybe that school only have 1 student 254.
Anyone good in analysing such to interpret?
:thankyou:
To me, wide range usually have affiliates. They reserve spaces for students from their affiliated primary school. When that is filled up, the school open slots to the public. So if only one class is open to the public, the public competes to enter that one class. Such schools have very few high scorers. The low scorers are their affiliates and these form the bulk of the students.
Is that a good school? I doubt so. It just means they have few spaces for the public to enter, hence high COP. Standards set at the school cater to the bulk, which are average scorers.
Narrow bands usually means no affiliates. The students there made it on their own merit. Pupils there are surrounded with similiar peers. The general pace is set according to their standards i.e a good fit.
There is also one very important factor. When one joins a school with affiliates, the students there already formed their own cliques. It is very hard to break into the group. A close friend told me this when he joined my school decades ago.
To me, making friends is the most imperative experience in a sec school bec these are the friends that will see you through life. So, to be unable to break into cliques is a huge drawback. In a non-affiliated environment, everyone has to make new friends all over again. This is a strong plus.
Ps: Daddy here. So dunno whether my view is accepted? -

My take
I'm a newbie to this platform but am glad to find my way here!

1. A lot in terms of More sch fees but a lot less teaching, because IP students suppose to be independent learning and self driven by nature, so IP Teachers no need teach so much just skim thru and give out notes for self practice. Not for students who parents need to sit besides during psle mugging
2. IP die die must go EJC. If OP, or halfway switch fr IP to OP, can switch to any JC by merit of Os results -
Thanks, Mengshan!
Ha btw, as this forum is very active, how do i reply tagging to the specific note such that the person can relate to it? Just don’t seem to find any way to do it… -
Just to confirm if student chooses 1st choice IP and 2nd choice OP in SAME Sec sch that offers dual track, he won’t be placed behind another student who got same tscore but opt OP of same sch as 1st choice (not referring to any affiliation cases)

I got 277+3 and I don’t know if I should go to DHS or RVH. Does anyone have any opinions on these two schools?
-
DS has 246 + 2 and we are considering CCHM or AHS. Any opinion on these 2 schools?
-
SCGS offers dual track. The merit is that of safety-net effect. If on the IP program, it leads to EJC which also have IP alliance with SNG and Catholic HS, which are also prominent. Lower BGR distraction (first 4 years).
RVHS: Commendable/strong A level results in recent years. Nearer to Jurong Point.
Distance is key consideration.
