        8228:
expected that my ds may fail EL as he got about 60% for the 2 mock tests before the ct. However, did not expect him to fail so badly.

        His ct results:

        EL - less than 45%
        SS - 60+%
        HCL - 60+%
        Maths - > 90%
        Science - > 90%

Failed the baseline standard for 3 of the 5 subjects. Really worried.....
Don't be disheartened, if you show it, your child will be discouraged too.

From his results, you can tell that he is strong in Maths and Science.

For EL, other than writing more and doing much longer write-ups, the compre passages are definitely much longer and there more inferencing questions too. Also, presentation skills seem to be important too. Your child may be not used to such changes yet.

With time and practice, he will become better.

          hi 8228,

I’m no expert but if he hasn’t started reading the bks on the reading list, june hols are here and it’s time to start. If you’re unable to coach him, get him a tutor or sign up with the learning lab.

I borrowed about 10 books in the booklist from library before and he read only one just for the project. He already has a EL tutor.

Reading is very important for learning and improving the languages. For my ds' case, he loves to read English story books but not Chinese so the results ........ matches 😐

If you have attended the GEP briefing in last Nov, they told parents not to expect high score in GEP and not to get them to tuition but let the school GEP teachers teach the GEP kids ... :?

I have never expected high scores for his languages but he needs to achieve at least 65% for EL and 70% for CL, am I right? Or is it ok not to achieve this baseline standard for promotion? It will be quite demoralising if he is kicked out of GEP. For him to get 65% overall for EL, he will have to score about 80% for the next 2 ct, which is very challenging for him. I think I will be irresponsible if I still leave everything to the teacher and do nothing. Anyway, the EL teacher will send him for remedial class next term.

i was looking thro' the notes i've taken down when i attended the parents briefing at the beginning of the year, and this was what i have jotted down: baseline - overall 70%, chinese 50%, EL 65%
