Hi I am new to sg syllabus. My kid has got into the Nus …is eligible for hmt and foreign language.

Can some one experienced please tell me the benefit of taking up these two additional work load…does it give any merit points in the future…of course apart from the obvious knowledge acquired. Thank you.

Yes, I am interested to know too. DS got no interest in languages but I am thinking it might be good exposure since it's FOC.

Is it very tiring to take on third language just for the exposure? Will it pull down his overall score if he just attend lesson but don't really put in much efforts?

Is it better to take at MOE language centre or school?

        Or we should skip this.

Taking 3rd Lang in school is not free. It costs $100 per month but the advantage is saving on the travelling time.

If eligible, isnt it free of charge as per MOE website? Only those who opt for 3rd lang electives in sch need to pay?

If eligible, it is free if u attend the lessons at the language centres. But if u opt to attend lessons in school for convenience, will have to pay.

If u attend 3rd language, at MOELC (Bishan or Newton) :
free of charge, no need to pay

But if u attend 3rd language (Spanish / jap / French / german) , at NUS High (school premises) :
                    not free, need to pay

Ok, actually I am interested in Malay.

But will the marks pull down his score? Is it counted toward his year end result?

Currently, only Japanese and French are conducted at NUS High. Students who opt for Japanese and French will have an option to attend the lessons at NUS High or the MOE language centres.

Students who opt for Spanish and German will have to attend the lessons at the MOE language centres.
