National Junior College (Junior High)

The school has a CAFE program, where students can try out different CCA per term in JH1. Most students will get their choice CCA, except of course the more popular ones, like basketball. But you can still appeal to join your choice CCA if you didn’t get it intially. I know of a girl who wanted to join but couldn’t get into basketball CCA. She appealed and then put on waiting list. After a few months (?), the teacher in charge called her to tell her that she got in. I think the school tries to accommodate to students’ interests and talents.

Is njc better than rv? My dd want to do Chinese and in Co Ed. With 259 as score, many feel we should go for njc a "better" sch.

Can anyone share more on the Sapphire and SPIRE programmes?

Both schools are pretty distinct. I won't say that NJC is \"better\" than RV or vice versa. RV is a SAP school, so more emphasis on chinese and chinese culture related activities. That said, NJC does offer higher chinese, and also Chinese language and linguistics to those who are interested. Which school is nearer to you (or transport wise more convenient)? Check out the special programs in both school. Go with what your dd feel more comfortable in.

SPIRE programme is a compulsory research programme for all JH2 and JH3 students. They will be exposed to the research process, culminating into research projects and participation in research fairs. Sapphire is a scholars programme, for students did v well in academic as well as leadership from JH3 to SH2.

Canoeing practice seemed quite a bit more demanding than other sports (plus the travel time to and fro the reservoir), and we have tried 3 different sports and settled on climbing which DS felt most happy with. Even with the travel to various climbing venue it wasn't as demanding as Canoeing. Climbing mostly for SH but they do let the upper years JH join if show strong interest.
Hi
This forum is quite hard to find on google since it was renamed. Took me some time to get here. Hope it will be active still as a result.
May I know what is a timetable (start school, end school, any other events) for JH1, with CCA and foreign lang?
I feel my child will have too much on her plate with foreign lang in.
When is exam? mid year and end year?
If child takes canoeing cca for a start, how many days practice? 2 or 3 days??
Thanks in advance. -

Ok thanks! i think my child can't take up the third lang. tks
NJC Canoeing is Very strong nationally - be prepared to train on site at MacRitchie (Kallang for Dragon Boat) at least 3times a week. No breaks during Jun/Dec holidays.
Sports CCA plus 3rd language will be tiring, Very.
(Disclaimer: sorry, my kids are not in the team though)[/quote] -
ok thanks to skyminecrafter, ski, resgmom and mommyNg for all yr replies on canoeing CCA and timetable etc.
So just to clarify, canoeing is 2 times or 3 times or it can be both. Tks
