Does anyone knows about KNowledge Inquiry here ?
Econs H1 and H2 is just a difference of case studies.

My son will be in JC1 next year.

he’s trying to get into Humanities Scholarship Programme.
Subject combinations :

Must :
English Lit
History H2.
Project for year1

Variables :
GP ( H1) / Knowledge Inquiry (H2)
Maths ( H1 or H2)
Econa ( H1 or H2)

Now, I’m worried and wondering, what subject combi should he take so not so xiong ?
Seems to me there must be four H2 and one H1, am I right ?

Someone please help and enlighten us here.

He needs 4 content subjects including a contrasting one, but KI can be counted as one (and contrasts with everything). It's either 4 H2, or 3 H2 and 1 H1. Only very exceptional cases take more than that, and the JC must give permission.

Option 1: With Lit and Hist, given the list above, he should take Econs and Maths (with GP instead of KI). He can either take 4 H2 or take either Maths or Econs as H1. Many students take 4 H2, and if he is scholarship student, 4 H2 should be within his ability.

Option 2: Lit, Hist, KI and either Maths or Econs. Personally, I feel that Maths, even at H1 level, is important as it may be needed for research etc in university. Econs is more easily picked up later if necessary, and is not a prerequesite for any university course. It is possible to get into some university courses without Maths, but it can limit what he can choose later on. Eg. my daughter is so anti-Maths that even though she took H1 Maths, she avoids everything that has Maths in it! She can manage that as she's taking a very \"humanities\" course in university and is not planning to do a final year project, but statistics is quite important if the student needs to do any kind of social science research etc.

Li (H2) + Hist (H2) + KI (H2) + Maths / Econs ( H1) ------ 4 subjects

Second and Third H2 : Choices : Econs, Geography, History
In addition to three H2 subjects, Humanities Scholars have to offer a contrasting subject which may be KI or from the Maths/ Science group.

May I know when they say contrasting subject, does it matters if its H1 or H2 ?

You have to take 4 content subjects + GP + PW + MT (if you take KI, that's counted as a content subject)

Ignoring PW and MT for a moment here and just considering the content subjects:

Your 4 content subjects can be 4H2 or 3H2 + 1H1.

So if you take GP, you can do H2 Lit, Econs, History, Math. Or drop Math to H1.

If you take KI, then you will take Lit, Econs, History, KI.

In answer to your question, the contrasting subject can be H1 or H2.

If you are only referring to CONTENT subjects, then the normal is 4 subjects (i.e. 4 H2 or 3 H2 + 1 H1).
However, there are 2 more compulsory subjects - GP (H1) and PW (H1); and if your child has not taken HMT at O level, he has to take MT (H1). These are not usually mentioned as they are common to all students (except if the student takes KI, he doesn't take GP).

This will depend on the terms of the scholarship. I am not sure if the students must take 4 H2 or may take 3 H2 and 1 H1. In fact, some students might take a non-contrasting subject at H1 level and a contrasting subject at H2 level, but the HP doesn't allow that, based on what you quote above.

Yes, if he takes Maths he needs to take GP. But see above for why GP is not counted as one of the 4 A level subjects.

Saw that you have been asking the same question in a number of threads.

I have no idea about DSA to ACJC via theatre but there are a few things we know / can deduce:
- If there is an offer, we are talking about only one, or maybe max. two CO.
- Therefore, the more talent you have, the stronger candidate you will be. A candidate who can sing, dance, act, direct and even do some writing will have a better chance than one who can only do one thing.
- That said, if you can only do one thing, you have to make sure that you are the BEST in that ONE thing. I think it’s a small circle, preferably you have some name recognition (preferably in Singapore, but no harm if you are known in JB and Batam as well).
