How do you handle a stressful maid? I am trying to be a good employer but it seems that our maid is getting into my nerves.
Need to find out the sources of her stress.

Hi I have a very quiet and polite ex-SIN Indon maid, whom I am looking at transferring out after being with us for 10 months. Decided not to keep her as she speaks some English only. And in the end, 10 Yr old girl needs to watch over her when sending child to enrichment classes.

She used to work for malay families for 4 yrs. Currently could communicate with hubby since he speaks malay. Needs some reminders due to language barrier but very earnest in wanti g yo do things right.

My question is, do I send her back to the agency and have her transfer out or just send her back to Indon?

        Thx

Anyone has any transfer maid with experience with infants (below 1 year old)? Cooking is not a priority but helping to take care of the infant and cleaning is priority.

              Hi,

We just launched http://www.stepup.video, an online video training app for Employers to train their domestic workers. The videos are narrated in English, Bahasa and Tagalog and topics include chores, cooking, English lessons, Professional Behaviour, Childcare, financial literacy, social media management, and more. Please check it out and we also look forward to Employer's suggestions on other topics to benefit their domestic workers.

Hello! I would like to ask your opinion regarding our concern. We have full-time made and she has been with us for a month. She is asking if we could provide a handphone for her. Should we give her one or not?

No, don’t pander to her wants. She wants a go, she earn her salary & buy. Pls limit her time use. Keep when she’s working. I don’t hv ppl gifting me phone, and I value the use. Don’t let her abuse yr kindness. She will need 3 meals, a place to sleep & some eyers provide shower cream, shampoo & toothpaste. These will be IMO her needs. Hope u take it as views for considerations.

Hi guys, need advise over here.

                    Background :
                    - Indo maid working for 2mths
                    - currently only fetching $88 per mth as compensation for off in lieu
                    - salary of $550 will come in may

Main core duty is do hsechores and to care for my 5 mth old baby which I’ve placed at my parents plc. Primary caregiver of my baby is my mum. I will fetch baby back to inlaw hse on every Fri, without my maid as my mil has another maid as well.

Basically every weekend she can rest as there’s minimum work to be done. My parents stayed in a hdb 4 rm flat, no pets.
Previously I was OK letting her sit and rest. But with the introduction of hp (which she requested and asked my mil maid to purchase on her behalf), she has been spending more time on the hp.

So my problem is she rejected my proposal of giving her off day, as she know its easy money to sit and collect $22 every Sunday. How can I go about asking her to go for her off?

Initial contract states no off as I thought I will be needing her help on weekend and I wanted to shield her from external influences. It’s no longer needed as she has expanded her social network through my mil maid.

Another reason that she refused to go for off is no money - which she has spent on her hp and data card. She still has abit of SGD amounting to sgd80.

I suggested going for off twice a month, which she has firmly rejected.

My point is down the road she can complain to mom should I reject her request for off. But must I adhere to her and continue to pay her if she refused to go for off but not working?

Do you need a maid in the first place? You have a primary caregiver for your baby. As for household chores, unless you are living in a big hse, else maybe can consider a part time helper etc.

                        1) If upon WP, u’ve engaged her at $550 & with every off-day, then there’s no reason why she shld hv any recourse to complain to MOM. She has to go for her regular off-days.

                        2) If her employment contract specifies u’ve offered her $550 and will compensate her for 2-offdays at MOM’s rate, then those were yr agreement at the onset. It will be unreasonable for u to deny her & try to push her out to take the other 2-offdays bcoz she’s not doing her job & on hp most times. Then, instead of giving her ammunition tt u’ve renegade on original agreement, you might want to find ano new helper & State yr no use of hp during work hours & when she’s allowed to use her hp.

                        3) You can also try reason with current helper on no use of hp during work hours etc. If she complies, good for both of u. If she doesn’t, u might consider the new helper route.
