All About Overseas Education
-
My PRC neighbors make prior arrangements for kids every vacation whether in SG schools or Int’l schools here, to hv Chinese tuition back in China. Now I’m wondering, if our SG kids can find good English tuition in China 1st & 2nd tier cities? What kind of std can be achieved & how can it be mapped into our rigorous SG edn’l system?
One of my neighbors moved her son (leaving River Valley Pri) back to Shanghai 2 years back & into a less expensive International school that has sprung up all over China by locals to meet demands. Today, she arrived with her son back to join the United World College. She lost the chance for her son to join the SG sec sch system here after giving up her PR status.
Unless kids move relocate overseas bcoz of parents’ work assignments, I’ve seen many kids even at young adults age, find it hard to keep up with homesickness & established very immature/short-term relationships out of loneliness. Just some other matters to consider besides high cost of overseas education & living expenses. -

\"Overseas education\" types and costs varies depending on age of child. You will need to specify more details to get answers. University? Pre-U? Sec school?
This sounds interesting, sending your child to another country to study. But I am wondering if how much will it cost today to send your child to overseas education? -
slmkhoo, say if for U, how much will that be in UK say for your dd?
or Australia? -

I’m always perturbed why SG agents hv not arranged with overseas uni like those M’sia ties up with Australia to offer 2 + 1 where the student spend 2 years in Msia studying in a twining college & then go over to Australia to finish off in a year (minus holidays, winter abt 8-9 mths). There again quality of edn differs I suppose & one wld hv missed out the Int’l student community which I’ve benefitted fr & whenever I travelled on my job, I cld tap on their ground expert advice.
Also guess we can look at those who do Poly in SG, as many overseas uni now recognizes our Poly Diploma for 2 years credit. But u’ll still need to complete 2 years in an Aussie uni. -
Aren’t there some? Like those foreign unversities which tie up with SIM, MDIS or PSB? And there are universities like James Cook as well. I haven’t looked recently, but I’m fairly sure quite a few of those tie-ups have options to do a year or so at the "home" campus.

1 year I find may be too short…guess when you go overseas it should be more than the cert ba…the experience etc…

I’m not sure the details of fees tho I wld expect poly credits are worthwhile if the family hv little extra cash. Those JCU, SIM, etc May hv to pay higher fees & no govt subsidies or bursary? No idea.

Also SG Campus exposure very different, esp the learning engagements & teaching style.
