Of the 3 major universities, SMU is known for being more \"holistic\" in its assessment. Interviews and other criteria count a lot. So even if her grades are not as good, there must have been something else that gave her an edge. Also, the universities publish the 10th percentile IGP, not the \"COP\". That gives them 9 percent of the places to be less grades-focused.

Her admission will have to be under special considerations aka DA - discretionary admission. -
Discretionary Admissions are for applicants who do not meet the IGPs. NUS, NTU and SMU admit up to 15% of their cohort via DA - this is not a small number.

Anyway, the university administration based on Academic result for COP. Last time my child CCA hockey in RI, the team played very hard, eventually they only won as third place in nation. As only first and second places can have the advantage for university adminition. End up the classmate applied NUS medicine as her scores not very good, NUS medicine did not give any chance for interview. She went to Australia university for studying. I felt it was not fair to the Sports students as they spent a lots of time for training and played very hard for the national competitions. Final it was because of one ball or one hit then became as third place. Eventually those sports students who played national competition, A level scores was not good as others. If they spent more time on their Studies, their A level scores should be much more better.
My child only fully concentered on the study after the national competition which is End of apr Jc2. Her friend came from rich family. As such she went to Australia study is not the problem for her. Hope she still can achieve her dream to become a doctor. While not every parents are rich enough to support for the child to go aboard for study.
I am confused for JAE posting and also fill for 12 choices in the form.

The local universities do admit students via discretionary admissions. If your academic grades don't meet even the 10th percentile IGP of the previous year, your other activities be they sports talent, music talent etc had better be rock solid. 3rd place in nationals for a group sport really isn't that solid an achievement. If it was a 3rd place in the Asian Games, that would hold more weight. NUS and NTU medicine are among the most competitive courses in Singapore, with applicants among the cream of the crop, many scoring perfect scores. Cut off UAS scores for interviews can be as high as 87.5. If you're not near there, how can you hope to secure an interview if your other achievements aren't strong either?

A solid example of someone who managed to get in to NUS medicine via discretionary admissions is Quah Zheng Wen, the Olympic swimmer who scored 43 (I think) in his IB. He had an excellent IB score. Not perfect, and that was where his Olympian status secured his interview and ultimately a place in the course.
The decision between focusing on sports or studies is really up to the individual. If you are able to excel in both, then great. If you aren't able to excel in both, then pick one. There are sports people in NUS medicine who also scored straight As at A levels. A national sailor, a marathoner; both of whom represented Singapore in their respective spots. These are exceptional people. At the end of the day, know your ability and what you're willing to sacrifice to get what you want. -
Did QZW get into Med by DA or regular admissions? (I thought regular…as he met the grade for being shortlisted)

So if the unis are using UAS as a form of COP, then BBB/EAA does make the cut. In the published IGPs, PW and GP grades are assumed to be \"C\", please refer to Q2 of the SMU FAQ. Actually this assumption is true for NUS and NTU as well. -

Unfortunately, there are students who spent a lot of time training and still can get good grades.
And that's why i also never advocated for Sports DSA if your grades are no where near the school's COP.
