@jtoh, thanks for sharing information. Really amazing IB result for national swimmer Quah Zheng Wen.

Recently looks at IB and A levels, I realize that IB need more team work than A level. And IB need To study English literature. For O level students to study IB, also not easy.

Thks all for the sharing on uni admission pt.

From the UAS scoring. , I read above
The 4th H2 or H1 full pls is capped at 10,
May o know why Some Alevel kids want to take 4 H2 n not 3H2 +H1 , I thought lesser load in content n more time for other subject , take Economics as example to compare H2vs H1.

One of the reasons is because some scholarship requires candidates to have 4H2 instead of 3H2+1H1.

The main reason for taking 4 H2, I believe, is simply that it looks better for purposes of university application and scholarship interviews where competition is fierce. Some kids like the feeling of stretching themselves, and with peer pressure as well, those who can do it will usually take 4 H2s. It also depends on what the university prerequisites are for courses - having more H2s may mean a wider choice of courses which is good for those who are still undecided where they are heading. And I think you can only take H3 in a subject if you are already taking H2, so again it gives more options. My daughter started off liking Chem more (Econs was an unknown) but ended up liking Econs best, took H3 Econs and is studying it at university.

Also, for some subjects, and Econs apparently is one of them, the H1 is more than half of the load (some say as much as 70%!), so it's not really \"worthwhile\" taking it at H1. I don't know this for a fact, but that's what I've heard.

It boils down to the ability and inclination of the student. Students who are not strong or confident in the 4th core subject should take it at H1 level so as to maximize their chances of doing well with the reduced scope. Students who take 4 H2s do it for several reasons: for scholarships; for better uni admission prospects; because they want to stretch themselves; because they can; and I think more commonly, because everyone else in the JC is doing it. There are those who take 4 H2s in JC1 only to realize they can't cope and drop the weakest H2 to H1.

Heard HCI imposed on its IP students MSG of 2.5 and below (ie average 67.5) to be able to take 4H2. Is this true whereas it’s free for all for JAE students. Does RI impose similar requirements?

For DS, it was simply because he doesn’t know which subject he would do worst because his weakest subject changes each semester.

RGS GPA need to be 3.2 in order to choose 4 H2.

Not sure how it applied to JAE students. If anyone knows for JAE students for choosing subjects, please advise here. Thanks in advance.

I would think that it’s usually a case of JCs dissuading weaker students from taking 4H2s, rather than insisting that some students take 4H2s if they prefer to take 3. And as someone pointed out earlier, students can choose, or may be advised, to drop a subject to H1 even if they started off with 4 H2s.
