I have the same questions - anyone find the revision programmes by tuition centres useful? Learning Lab runs intensive revision programmes for all the subjects but they are so expensive! Also i am trying to send DD (PSLE this yr) to compo writing classes. Any kind mummies want to share which is good in the east?
If yr child is in 2020 PSLE year and attending class with TLL, best u explore exit before May esp if u’ve done a GIRO der pymt scheme. GIRO takes a mth to notify cancellation & u’ve to give a month’s notice to TLL to terminate services before u can get a refund.

We had experienced having being forced to sign up for June intensive revision classes & it’s not cheap. They claimed its targeted at PSLE brush up & then during regular lesson time, teachers enticed my kid that they’ll be nice bento lunches provided. In the end, not only they claimed bento cldn’t get & bought junk McDonald burgers but my child says practices were easy peasy & some done before.

Many parents were caught not able to cancel or terminate classes. So hv to pay last few thousands with no additional value. Thot I’d just share.

You might wanna check for compo writing classes with Writers@Work or Academia. Their classes gets fully sign-up very fast, esp for P6s.

IMO for science, blue tree (ex moe tcrs) or pique lab (cci, masterclass program) is good. Check their website or call them for more info.

Again imo, should start almost immediately instead of June holidays. For my child’s school, SA1 will be assessed based on ALL topics/chapters for science n maths🤦🏻‍♀️.

              MP,

Compo writing skills actually need time to hone in. Mine when started at P5 with W@W I was thinking abit late, but thankfully it was timely. Thereafter, I discovered S&T also ano typical weak area for majority of kids, so we went to Academia @ Sin Min Plaza II. If u can, see if u can sign up with W@W for compo. IMO, wait till June is too late. Prelims in Aug, PSLE starts Sept. Then kids hv other subjects such as MT, Math & puberty to handle.

Can’t recommend any Sc centre coz mine didn’t find TLL Sc teachers good at all. We only revised with my coaching using their materials.

                You’re most welcome.

Don’t wish for any other parents to get caught spending 冤枉钱.

I dont work for TLL, Academia, Wow or any other tuition centers.

They all have a one month notice for withdrawal and which is not uncommon among many other tuition centers that collect a deposit. The only one I know that you can withdraw without even telling them is one that does not collect a refundable deposit. Also, the “one month notice withdrawal in order to get back your deposit”, would have been explained to you in the t&c when you sign up.

To terminate giro arrangement with any organisation immediately, terminate at the bank’s side. Works for tuition centers, insurance companies, utility services, telcos, etc.

I make a mistake with my 2 boys by putting them in reputable enrichment centers and hope I can leave all teaching to them. Over time realized that it doesn’t work that way. Teachers that work closely with parents on their assignment and progress is the best approach. Have since significant progress in their learning and results, need to also know how well our children is coping and does the teaching style suit our child.

Erm, our experience with TLL was that their claim after receiving GIRO termination, THEN we can withdraw. We’re not the only TLL parents having exhaustive experience with TLL Admin processes. Also, as their fees are collected by term, it makes it more complicated. We opted out of GIRO pymt once enter into PSLE year, not tempted by their discounts for term & GIRO pymts. So we were less affected. But the bad taste of poor teaching, despite good materials, does not go well with us.

The value of learning is thro a dedicated teacher’s guidance as to how the materials shld be applied to u’stand’g. Not being charged with thousands just in 2 weeks of 4 hours each during sch holidays (each lesson 2 X 2 hours of normal lesson charges charged at one go) for simple worksheets all done in class - meaning nothing new gets taught & nothing challenging to catch kids who may hv missed out on tricky questions with simple formalae/concepts appln. Answers written on board for kids self-marking & teacher’s pen over for total marks.

Our experience at both W@W and Academia was a lot better. At least both teacher Agnes & Sherman was very dedicated & professional by guiding the kids personally for individual improvement & not watching hours, by individual outside class hours coaching (they asks parents for extra time, beforehand, if needed).

Yes! That’s great hands-on parental guidance at primary level.
