Any advice on travelling to Sri Lanka in June

If you are looking to spend most of your time on a beach, you should be looking to the EAST coast in June, as the weather and sea conditions are better there during the summer months, whereas Galle (SW coast) is likely to see quite a bit of wet weather and rough seas in June, and Galle itself is not a beach resort, although there are beaches close by. Galle is popular with people who like to see the old Dutch colonial architecture of the town, mainly around the Fort area, but it is not a place that thrills me.
