Thanks all for your prompt and insightful replies. I really do appreciate it. Yes SJI Jr. is definitely on the radar as Plan B. My current house is actually within 1km to SJI Jr but it’s too small and so we really need a bigger place. We bought it when we first got married and were not planning on kids at that time. The place we’re looking at now is unfortunately only within 2km of SJI Jr. tho within 1km of ACSP (also within 2km of ACS Jr.)


And yes I’m true pink IC. 6th generation Singaporean fwiw and my great grandparents and grand parents were part of the old guard. How the balloting process considers one’s true Singaporean-ness is beyond me though. Are qualitative aspect of one’s background considered? I though it was a pure computer/numbers driven exercise?

The balloting system is not God & will not be able to measure the qualitative value of anyone nor will bkgrd hv any bearing fr one generation to ano.


The balloting system’s parameters are set by human hands & hence will be based on varied human heart & human hands.

Hearsay priority is given to SC (child’s status), contribution of parents (alumni, grassroot leaders, religious affiliations), then your distance fr school as priority. Hope I got the order right.

Balloting parameters are set by MOE and are the same for all primary schools.


All SCs <1km get an equal chance, regardless of how long they’ve been SCs, how much or how little contribution they’ve made to society, donation to the school, connections with the management etc etc etc.

The computer system is blind to human factors. Equal chance for each child at the ballot.

My child got his equal chance at the ballot and got in. Didn’t have to bribe my way in.

Newbie here. I have a 2014 boy and am considering my options for next year's intake. My hubby is an old boy and he joined OBA. He has the membership card, so I assume we qualify for 2A1? I read some of you mentioned a letter from OBA, but I don't know if he has that.

We live outside 2km and don't intend to move. However, from my past reading, I think we are quite safe regardless of distance in Phase 2A1?

Also my hubby has a preference towards ACPS as compared to ACJS. Are there any school fun fairs that we can go to get a general sense of both schools? I know everything is cancelled now because of the coronavirus, but if someone could share the event and the period when it is likely to happen, that would be great, so that I can keep a lookout. I assume the respective calendars on the school website would be the best place for me to track such information?

Lastly, where can I find out more information re student care? I look at the Epworth website, but there is not much.

Firstly, get the letter from OBA, and at least 1 year membership. ACSP 2A1 should be safe , or might need balloting for >2km. And we can’t compare that with ACSJ as OBA doesn’t applies, so either 2B or 2C and if you are >2km, can forget it. Epworth has basic student care facilities, food, games, spelling, Ting Xie, homework, and if time allows, assessment books. They are sort of non-profit center so we can’t expect much.

Is the husband a former student of ACSI, ACS BR, ACSP or ACSJ? Anyone who has attended any of the ACS schools for at least one year is eligible to join ACSOBA. However, only ACSP old boy is eligible for ACSP Phase 2A2 application. Status-ship is not transferrable, i.e. an old boy of another ACS school would not be eligible for Phase 2A1/2 in ACSP.

Oh! Thanks for clarifying. I didn't realise that and my hubby obviously didn't know as well. I'm from MGS (Sec) and our alumni status is valid for primary school admission, so I assume it would work the same in ACS too.

Anyway, he is ACPS and ACSI old boy. So that qualifies us for 2A1?

What is this letter from OBA? What does the letter state? That he is an old boy of ACPS? That he has been accepted in OBA? Do we have to specially ask for a letter from OBA?

Hi! New to this forum. I will be registering my boy for acps this year and am looking for student care option. Understand they have one within the campus which provide basic care, just wondering anyone has other options to suggest? Preferably one where

school bus can pick him up from the school and drop him at the center. Thanks in advance
