Once again need some suggestions from you all.
What precautions/ care to take if one is travelling on a long haul flight?

Packing wet wipes, hand sanitizer, masks...
It depends on how long that long haul flight is. If it's to Europe or America, I think it's too suffocating to wear the mask throughout the flight, except 2 hrs, for eating your meals. I wear 'cosmetic' mask on flights to Beijing (6hr), Shanghai (5hr) but because I will sleep throughout, I do not feel uncomfortable with it. 13hr or 21hr flights masked up- I will die!

Is the airline you're taking still providing hot towels, pillows and blankets? I usually take along my own facial wet wipes and thick TEMPO tissue paper when I travel.

During this period, I suggest using antibacterial wipes to clean the arm rest, tray table, touch-screen, handset, cables, window panels if seated at A or K in economy. Throw used wet wipes into the air sick bag in front pocket.

I'll wear a hoodie so I have a barrier between head rest and my hair. I will don my sterilised sunglasses when I sleep but you can use their eye masks.

Long-sleeve is a must. I always make my entire family wear long sleeve top and pants to watch a movie in the cinema, as there are bed bugs on some cinema seats. I'm truly paranoid about public upholstery covers.

In the event your temp is higher than 37.5 degrees upon arrival at the airport, you must expect yourself to be separated from your travel group. Please ensure your remaining travelling companions know how to and have enough local currency to get to the hotel themselves, while you take the ambulance to the local hospital for further testings & quarantine.

Always pack a small travel kit with all your must-haves in your hand carrier or take one cabin bag with some change of winter clothes, in case you are stranded for hours at the airport like some South Koreans in Mauritius airport.

I watched on Bloomberg TV that a HK lady was separated from her mother at Incheon airport due to her high temp. So she had to take the ambulance to one Korean hospital for swab tests and be quarantined till the results were out. She stayed for at least 1 - 2 nights for the test results to return before she could be cleared by the docs to go back to the hotel where her mother had been waiting for her. She also had a 7 bg cabin bag with her (big one should be with her mother), so she wasn't entirely in need of using the free hospital kit.

Gloves coz not every airline sanitize internal of planes after every single flights. SQ removed all magazines but some others still leave them in for passengers (and those quite worn out pages, eeek!).

Alcohol wipes in case u hv to eat out & not sure if cutleries are properly cleansed or serving staff are carriers.

Hoods & long sleeve as u’ll hope nobody drop any unseen on yr hair or shoulders.

If u hv a choice, choose window seats, as aisle are too exposed to many other passengers & crew pace along aisle. No guarantee suggestions here.

Abv all, try to clear bladders before flights & not use washroom on plane. Keep yr face sacred as mouth, eyes & nose are virus happy playgrd. Keep safe & hv a safe trip.

I think that the line in red is the only thing you need to remember, actually. Gloves, hoods, sleeves, masks etc won't really help if you allow them to touch your face, or touch your hands and then your face. Wipes might help, but you still never know if they have really sanitised what you've wiped, so you still need to be careful not to touch your face. Same with washroom or any other surfaces.

I hear that the air in planes is pretty clean because of good filters, so unless someone actually sneezes/coughs on you, you should be OK. Wearing a mask would be some protection, but not very comfortable. And as long as the food and cutlery was covered and sealed while being served, it should be OK.[/quote]Oh, the thing abt wipes as oppose to using alcohol based sanitizers is that with wipes, one is using the same piece cleaning all over which increases the risks of spreading germs to other not alr affected areas.

Alcohol wipes my frd brot along is intended more for restaurants in countries she’s visiting. I’ve seen my highly kiasi PRC frd uses those medical alcohol wipes on all her cutleries before we hv our meals together. Sporeans not the only kaisu kaisi ard globe leh 😂

If you are looking to buy masks for your long haul flight, I saw Shopee s-mart selling surgical masks eh like $2 for 4 pieces?? But everyone can only buy one set to prevent people from hoarding. Think that is a good deterrent. And they also say that the stocks will be replenished daily!

Coronavirus: Chinese couple charged under Infectious Diseases Act for giving false info to MOH officials

            26 Feb 2020

SINGAPORE - Two individuals have been charged under the Infectious Diseases Act for giving false information to officials from the Ministry of Health (MOH) and obstructing the conduct of contact tracing.

They are Hu Jun, a 38-year-old man from Wuhan and his wife Shi Sha, 36, who resides in Singapore.

Hu arrived in Singapore on Jan 22 and was confirmed to be infected with Covid-19 on Jan 31. Shi had been identified as a close contact of Hu and was issued a Quarantine Order on Feb 1.

Hu has since fully recovered from the infection and had been discharged from hospital on Feb 19.

Once a Covid-19 case is confirmed, MOH initiates contact tracing to identify individuals who may have been exposed to the case while he/she was symptomatic.

Close contacts are monitored closely and may be quarantined, so that they can be identified and treated early if they develop the disease. This measure also prevents close contacts from mingling in the community if they become symptomatic, and helps to contain further transmission of Covid-19.

Both Hu and Shi had given false information to MOH officials about their movements and whereabouts from Jan 22 to Jan 29 when they were contacted for the purposes of contact tracing. Shi had also provided false information while under quarantine. However MOH was able to establish their true movements through detailed investigations.

In view of the potentially serious repercussions of the false information given by the defendants, and the risk they could have posed to public health, MOH has served Hu and Shi charges on Feb 25. The case will be heard in Court on Feb 28.

Sorry har, I don’t use those alcohol swipes meant for medical purposes (e.g. insulin injections) to wipe hands/tables/cutleries so don’t classify us together with your PRC friends, 😂

This I can agree with CCS, leave the medical alcohol swipes to those really in need.

Regarding if not sick no need to wear masks, so do we need to wear one when we’re on board a plane? Let’s say, long flight to USA, don’t we need to take out the mask when it’s time for 3 meals?

Ha ha! My eyes was opened wide wide then (pre- COVID-19 days) when I see this PRC wipe all her cutleries with alcohol wipes. As most PRCs do, they don’t drink fr our tap but order big bottles of mineral water & dispense fr it to cook!

My frd who left for Turkey with her hubby is pure bred Sporean, she don’t usually wipe down like my PRC neighbour. But based on her 职业病 she brings masks & full protective measures as she’s gonna be on flight confined for hours. Recently when we met, she & her hubby don’t even wear masks or fear eating at cafe with me. She can’t cancel her trip with all bookings paid up, so she’s trying to take precautions with alcohol wipes in case she eats with unfamiliar cutleries etc.

Just hope cases in SKorea, Iran & Italy do not escalate any more. We’re still not out of the woods yet. I’m sure there are countries hiding incidence or numbers.

Hope the world doesn’t end up overproducing tons and tons of masks due to fear. 😢

For SG, since SARS until now, for the past 17years our demand for masks has been low. Even if we just produce N95, due to worldwide shortage of raw materials, our masks factory also stuck.

So if we are all equipped with the know-how to DIY reusable cloth masks and DIY hand sanitizers (e.g. X% alcohol plus something else), that would be useful.

Maybe next time govt can just provide large barrels of hand sanitizers outside Community Centres or MRT, we can then refill with our own small bottles. Cos I heard factories actually had hard time producting small plastic bottles fast enough to meet soaring demand

More environmentally friendly also, reusing plastic bottles.

Yes, to think of the number of trees going to be chopped down to make masks and tons of empty plastic bottles (from used hand sanitizers) to be buried or burnt, makes me sad. If we can DIY reusable masks and bring own plastic bottles for refilling, would be good.

During the initial period of the outbreak when everything was in short supply, I heard some creative folks brought their own plastic bottles to replenish hand sanitizer from Airport and various hospitals. 😂

I am impressed with how supermarkets have restocked their shelves and everything is pretty back to normal within a few days. But masks, thermometers and hand sanitisers have been out of stock in most retailers for more than a month now. I am sure our government is looking at how to handle this better in future, as mentioned in the news article above.
Regarding supermarkets, anyone noticed that the price of rice like went up $1 (per 5kg pack) since DORSCON Orange !? :scratchhead:
