I agree with this sentiment too.
Not all families have someone at home to watch younger kids, and many of the parents who would have to stay home may well be the medical staff and sanitation workers we can't spare. And older kids may not stay at home - imagine thousands of teenagers with free time hanging about outside. I think schools staying open, with current precautions, is still better overall.Rebel1124\" post_id=\"1965229\" time=\"1582818319\" user_id=\"100416:
So still don’t close schools because precious parents need to go work ?
But since there is a section of parents who are worried, maybe they can possibly implement a dual choice system - if really scared, then inform school and then do e-learning and the rest of the students can go to school.
Then again, Singaporeans will be in a big dilemma.
Kiasi then stay at home or kiasu so still go to school so dont lose out. -
I feel that we probably need to ‘live’ with the virus to be around for a while…while we see some cases in some countries looking positive but others start getting it or with increasing cases…let’s hope the infection will mostly be mild ones… seriously hope we can all start to travel with ease for Jun holiday lor.

My friend’s kids in HK have been stuck at home since 3 Feb. And 2 days ago, HK government has announced a further extension of school closure till 20 April. Similar, my friends in Japan are wondering what to do since their government has announced school closure till 3rd April. No laughing matter. For expats, they are luckier since one parent is usually not working. For locals, jialat.
Closing schools is not a small matter and Singapore possibly hasn't reach that stage which requires to do so.
HK schools hv been closed for some months and look at the repercussions.
Now Japan is thrown into confusion due to the abrupt closure of schools from 2 Mar -

Would closure of school apply to student care?

I agree too. School closure will only apply to red alert level. We have not, hopefully never, come to that yet.

In the event of school closure, e-learning will also be a challenge. For the younger ones, they will definitely need someone to be there to guide them along. For the older ones, they have to be disciplined enough to go online at the designated time for the e-learning. And no matter what, e-learning will not be as effective as proper classes.
Sis and I were talking and I said I would rather, if it comes to school closure, that MOE, reshuffle the school terms and holidays, bring all or part of the June break forward. Maybe extend the term 1 break by 2 weeks and delay the June break by 2 weeks. That will upset some family’s holiday plans I guess. However in terms of teaching, I believe it will be less disruptive. -
Earlier there was a petition to shut down schools, I think the response was also lukewarm lah.
The RI boy down with Covid, his 64yr family member first saw a GP on 11th Feb then again on 17th Feb, 20th Feb and finally 24th Feb before being tested positive on Wed 26th Feb. :slapshead:
Reminds me of Yong Thai Hang cases, infected patients must see many GPs!! But by then whole family already kena. Hope MOH can do something to improve this situation. -

in heavy winter places (eg swiss, germany, korea,Northern Jap), early June is still cooling of 10s to mild 20s degree celcius - so i think prob will drag after june.
Try not to plan overseas in June holidays too
I really hopethis yr end Dec is Very very ok too

guess another thing is how well is our predictabilty of the seriousness of current situation…is this mild, mid or serious and it links to what kind of approach to be used? Closing school should be more to the serious side, when there is a spike of cases and these cases have no link? and now not only internal issue whereby easier to control…many other countries also having it…how well each could contain? dont think any country can close the door or for long…now read that some bz quite affected already.
