now hv to be real careful that there is no 'out' from dorms and there is no spread in camps.
There are still quite a few unlinked cases in the general community. The potential of spread from them is large too. The fear is that some will disregard that while pointing fingers at the large no. of cases from the migrant worker dorms.

Agree. It’s too easy to point fingers at the FW, but forget many unlinked cases might still behave like SAFRA grp. Must adv community aunties & uncles to stay home.

          287 new cases on 9 Apr 2020:

...Isn't it obvious that such living conditions are recipes for disaster?

...Why fault the elderly uncles and aunties who go about their normal lives in some wet markets?

If you can accurately identify sources of risk, you can protect yourself.

QUOTE: Of the new cases, 219 are linked to existing clusters, with at least 160 cases linked to the S11 Dormitory @ Punggol.

From the same article: ...34 were linked to non-dormitory clusters or other cases...

Let's not forget that these 34 also pose a threat as they can easily spread the virus in the community if they don't take precautions.

It's true that the living conditions of the migrant workers is quite bad, and I hope that after this virus clears up, there will be permanent improvements to the living conditions. If we had to live in such cramped conditions with so little pay, I doubt many ordinary Singaporeans would be able to manage better.

And I don't think the elderly are being faulted for spreading the virus (although they may well become infected and then spread it); the exasperation expressed by our leaders is that these people, who are the most vulnerable, are putting themselves at risk by not being more careful. As it has been said many times by many people, these are not normal times, and we have to all suspend our normal lives for a while for the greater good, even if we ourselves may think \"it won't happen to me\".

After this unintended learning experience, we hope FW dorm can be improved & authorities implement tougher regulations on dorm operators to maintain cleaner, less cramped living environment with much regular clearance of rubbish for workers. The least we can do whilst FW work in & build our communities

I also think the conditions on the first day featured in the press were teething problems due to the stay-in, and the situation was probably not so bad normally. On normal workdays, the men would be all out most of the day, so the amount of rubbish, use of bathrooms and kitchens, etc would be much lower. Even in my flat, having just 4 of us at home all day, with much more space per person than in the dorms, and years of experience of having all of us work from home, means that the place needs more frequent cleaning. To give the authorities their due, action was taken quite promptly to improve the cleanliness and crowding once the situation was highlighted - kudos to them.

Don’t worry lah, the army camps chosen are those that have been vacant for some time or for reservists. Not the active camps, I think.

花瓶 Josephine Teo, I don’t know what to say.
Last SAT night, I highlighted that the FWs might pass virus to their GF maids when they meet on their off days. On that last Sunday before CB, MOM continued to allow maids to go for their off days, very slow to response! Case #1615, a female Indonesian WP holder, classified as unlinked case, hopefully she’s not the first maid here to kena covid from FWs.

The cause and effect has to be clear.
Before the dorms blow up, SG already has widespread community infection and the Mustafa cluster’s index patient could be anybody. Mustafa is also a favorite place for Singaporeans and it’s open 24hrs. Who knows someone on LOA/SHN secretly sneaked to Mustafa after midnight to shop and spread covid virus to the staff there? Then the FWs brought the virus back to their workplace/dorms. FWs here become the victims. Just like we could have brought the virus from NTUC back home and form a family cluster?

To be fair, v hard to stop FWs going Mustafa as it is like their all-in-one shopping mecca, just like I can’t stop you from going NTUC. Did Mustafa control the number of shoppers on its premises and also ensure safe distancing? The NTUC I frequent is also very packed TBH, no crowd control.

I am also very disappointed to openly declare the decision to rope in SM Teo Chee Hean. This is like slapping our 4G leaders. Cannot help behind the scenes? Why must declare for the whole world to know that without the 3G leaders, our 4G leaders can’t do much?
Does anyone know who should I contact to report those who don't observe the CB? Yesterday, a group of boys was playing soccer at the void deck. Now they are playing outside the corridor to their flat and there are a large group of people in it by the look of the number of shoes outside. These children play at the playground and void deck almost every day. They are creating a din when they kick the ball against the wall. How to live with this for a month? :stupid: :stupid:

You can try calling 999 but won’t be high priority.

Let me share a recent experience. Past midnight one day, one group of Indian Nationals were ragging another Indian near our place, on the open field. More than 10 of them involved which contravened the circuit breaker rules. The group tied up the “victim” and the rest took turns to pour different containers of liquids and white powdery stuff over his head. :torchme:

DH called the police to have them issue a warning to this group. We waited and waited until 12.30am and by then I was so tired that I asked hubby to give the police another call to ask them not to come down. The police receiving the call replied, “OK, thanks!” :slapshead: My goodness!

Kampong Java NPC is only 5 mins away and they could not despatch resources to attend to my call after 30 mins? This is not my first negative experience, I made a police report in August 2019, and for more than half a year, no news was heard from them until I made a big hoo ha then they apologized as the IO forgot to inform me of the outcome of their investigation.

I did think of calling the police but was afraid that I might be viewed as making a mountain out of a mole hill. Didn't want to mention race in case I am viewed a racist. I am open and exchange greetings with the adults. My DS1 didn't like it when I greeted them. Wonder why he so unfriendly or racist? 🤷 The immediate neighbour has moved out last December and was part of the gang. Occasionally some of the women would pop by and I was fine with it. What I could not stand is the din created by the children who are rather rowdy at times.
Same. I also avoid calling 999 as I do not want to be seen as making a mountain out of a mole hill. The last time I called 999 was like a decade ago, when I was driving on CTE and witnessed a motorbike in front of me hit the car rear and was flung away. Luckily my car did not roll over him.

I am not racist but I was really scared. I thought they were pouring petrol over the “victim” whose hands and legs were tied up and wanted to set the poor man on fire. :torchme:

If police has to split team during CB, pls ensure that you can still respond immediately when citizens call for help.
