Most students will qualify for NUS modules when they are in Year 6 as most of the Year 5 and Year 6 modules will satisfy the prerequisite for NUS modules. Those students who accelerate will get to start their NUS modules before Year 5/6 since they meet the prerequisites earlier. There were students who read NUS Year 3 modules before they graduated from NUSH.

The school will auto inform students who satisfy the prerequisite via email and the students have a choice to apply or not.

Those who get a min of grade A- will be awarded DSA Star Award which will cover the NUS tuition fee and will be refunded the next NUS semester.

What I like about this school is the open culture between the school and the students. DNA is to experiment, explore then figure out how to excel if the interest deepens. Even at Y1, you can express your interest to accelerate and diagnostic tests ( Experiment ) will be arranged to give you an opportunity to Explore whether you are suitable. If so, you are put in. If not, you finish your semester and relook the suitability next entry based on your track record for the year. Everyone is given a fair chance and the opportunity to stretch and develop. The opportunity given does not mean a free pass though. It is expected that the student can clear the core curriculum well (Excel) and already a >4.5 GPA in that core subject.

Mind you A- is 4.5 and this is likely the only school which will tell you your kid can do better on a A-.

Don’t mistake that it means that this is a stressful culture. Everyone is genuinely happy there - students, teachers and even the security personnel at the porch!
It’s a warm comfortable environment for the kids to be what they want to be.
Not all students opt for acceleration as the core curriculum is already accelerated over mainstream. I rem that it was shared in Orientation parent talk that most of the kids should be able to clear O level math or sciences by end of Year 2. Some are also extremely ass-lazy 😂 as they can sail by academically so will just opt to do the minimum 🤦🏻‍️so they have more time for other interests like their gaming, music , cca etc

Yes agree. The right fit is key and thus, the school is sparing no effort in the outreach to get the message out :rahrah: and widen the pool of potential applicants via the eOpen House by giving transparent and clear information.

Would just like to comment that the number of students who accelerate is usually not as high as this thread makes it out to be… I would estimate about 10-15 out of 170 people in my cohort. The difficulty of the curriculum also spikes in the later years, so majority of these people stop accelerating over time. By the time I got to Year 4, only about 5 people were still accelerated.


Instead, a lot more people take NUS modules in year 5 and 6. It’s a good experience that only NUS high students have, so if you have the chance I would recommend you try it for a semester.

On the other hand though, if you’re not accelerated and taking NUS module, you’ll be taking them alongside your school module, which means double workload. NUS classes clash quite a lot with the timetable, so you might have to miss some lessons (and you have to go through the trouble of contacting the teacher to find out what you missed). Some of my friends had to go to NUS on weekends at weird timings for lectures and assessments. NUS exam dates are also usually different from school exam dates.
