NTU is magnanimous. While awaiting for the Medicine waitlist outcome, they have welcomed my son to take up Biological Sciences & BioBusiness and has offered him a Nanyang Scholarship too. I thanks NTU for their nobility and generosity. It’s indeed a great privilege to study at this wonderful university.

        greatly appreciate the advices.
I am sorry that my writing are not clear, which mislead you all's understanding.

the advices i am seeking for:
choice between YLL offer (without scholarship) and MAS scholarship.

I am not familiar with MAS matters/career development, so try to get some advices here.

        Thanks alot!

        Hi! Susme,

        Thanks for the clarification.

YLLSoM would be a great school for those who have a great desire and passion for medicine.

MAS Scholarship is a prestigious award. It is an honour to be offered this PSC scholarship. A promising careers await you after your graduation, to be able to work in a government statutory board. MAS is the central bank of Singapore. A great organisation and a great work place with great prospect.

Relook at your perspective and choose one. One will graduate as Doctor, the other one will groom you to be great thinker and leader in these challenging world.

          Hi Susme

Is your child’s PSC offer a local or overseas one? Personally i feel that government scholars are ranked somewhat according to their awards and the career prospects seem better if u r an overseas scholar. So if it is for a local course and your child is keen to be a medical professional, i feel YLL is a good choice over the scholarship.
If the PSC scholarship is an overseas one, the choice is tougher. For my dd’s case, as she is a girl and has to go this year, she’s foregoing the scholarship for YLL. If yours is a son and has the benefit of 2 years of waiting out the pandemic chaos, give the MAS a serious thought and pick a prestigious university.

may get any choice advice between YLL offer (without scholarship) and MAS scholarship? Thanks a lot !
Depends on the interest of the child. One is science and another is finance. Ask the child what is the motivation for wanting to do medicine? Medicine is a long treacherous route but a very fulfilling one if one does it for the right motivation. Finance puts profitability at the heart of every transaction.

              Hi, Desmond,

Congratulation to you son. For the Nanyang scholarship, did you son apply for it?

BTW, did you son get the Duke-NUS pathway offer?

              All the best.

                Hi! Susme,

                Congratulations!

YLL and MAS (PSC) Scholarships are two different awards given under their conditions for you to pursue a specific course of your preference. Have you gone through the terms and conditions of the offering? Read them carefully.

NUS scholarship is given to freshmen for pursuing medicine at YLLSoM and is bond free.

Whereas MAS scholarship is awarded by Public Service Commission. You will be required to work for MAS for six years if you study overseas and four years if you study locally. You are free to take up any course of study at any reputable university, with the exception of Medicine, Dentistry and Architecture. It is not intended for medicine study.
What is this NUS YLL scholarship that is bond free? YLL LKC offers come with a 5 years Service Agreements for all Singaporeans.

YLL LKC are not scholarships. Extracted from the website -

Medical and dental education is highly subsidised by the Government of Singapore. All students regardless of nationality who are accepted into the medicine/ dental courses in the National University of Singapore/ Nanyang Technological University/ Duke-NUS Medical School, are required to sign the medical/ dental Tuition Grant.

Under the Agreement, medical and dental graduates shall serve in the local public healthcare sector for a period of 5 years after graduation.

First the child has to secure offers at YLL or LKC or Duke medical schools in order to enter into the service agreement, Hope this helps.

You are correct, Scholarship by YLLSoM has a bond attached. Only NUS Global Merit Scholarship and NUS Merit Scholarship offered have no bond attached. Sorry, my mistaken views.
