I find that there has been changes in the last few years - in the past the MYA was taken in one whole stretch just like the EYA, but it seems like now it was a few papers a week (can be 3 different papers in a day) and lasted a few weeks. Also for those who take RA Maths, in the mid year GPA computation, Maths will be counted as 1 subject instead of 2 subjects (for the non-RA Maths students) - a bit disadvantaged for students strong in Maths.
I heard that it is not uncommon for top RGS Humanities students to move to HCI instead of continuing with the Raffles Programme at RI(JC) after Sec 4. Is HCI much stronger in Humanities than RI? -

In the olden days, there was such a thing as \"Promsho\" scholar (pardon the mis-spelling) for JC 1&2 in early 80s, for which HCJC was the designated centre. This has been renamed the Humanities program which is still what it is. In other words, HCJC, now HCI, has all along being the Humanities Centre at JC 1 & 2.

It was called Promshaw.
80% of the tutors who started the scheme in 1979 are still there. They are fantastic. really got a proper education from them. Plus they are hilarious.
And they have good links with oxbridge + other UK unis so those who were gunning for those unis had additional reason to join HCJ. But these days the shift is towards US Ivy Leagues, even during my time many went to US from the Humanz programme. Not to say the RJ Humanz programme is no good, but there are other factors beyond the humanz prog for choosing HC rather than RJ.
In my year, most of the girls in humanz were from RG and most of the guys from AC. think after that, there was a shift to more RI and chinese high guys, but seems most years RG is still one of the majority girls' sch. -

True, 113 is an MEP, SAP, DSA Maths and GEP class, but if a mainstream girl does not score 275 or above in the PSLE, she'll be posted to 105, which is also a MEP class, but without GEP students. Hence, a GEP girl who scores 25+ and is taking music, will be posted to 113 as she can't be posted to 105, the other only MEP class.Red rose,
It is incorrect to say that 113 is the top class. The class comprises students who take MEP, AEP and students strong in Math Olympiads. Not all of these students scored >270. There are students in 113 who scored <260.
I also do not know of any of the classes being told that by their teachers that 113 is the top class either. The average of the students in 113 may be high, but so are the averages of some of the other classes.
In any case, why does it matter? PSLE is in the past and the girls all do the same syllabus regardless of which class they are in. -

Actually, I beg to differ your point that RA Maths students are of a disadvantage because of that new system. I have a daughter currently in RA Maths now in RGS. At first I thought the new system will be of a disadvantage to her, but after considering different points of view, I think it is actually of an advantage if you look at it this way:
The system goes like that, RA Math students will be exempted from all math 1 assessments except the end of year one, which will go 100% into her final Math 1 GPA. It might seem of a disadvantage, especially if students happen to not do well for that paper, but actually, after you weigh the pros and cons out, it does not really seem so.
Although math 1 isn’t counted for mid year gpa, it will still be counted for end yr gpa which is firstly more important as it is the final and overall gpa, and secondly, it is actually no different from other students taking other RA subjects, because math just happens to be double weightage whereas other subj, e.g. lit is only one weightage. So actually if you look at it that way, RA math students have an advantage in the end year where there is double weightage given to their strong subjects, and an equal advantage in mid year. Also, I trust that your daughter, if in RA maths, will come to prefer that structure, as math 1 has more projects, e.g. unit summary, which she wont need to do, which actually saves time and effort for her to concentrate on other subjects.
But all in all, my daughter still enjoys RA Math classes a lot as it is very challenging and they learn more new topics (touch on JC topics) which will definitely give them an advantage when come to math in JC. Her teacher is also very good, and her class is also quite active in discussions and the participation is very enthusiastic, as everyone like-minded has an interest in math, which also motivates her to strive better as well, and I believe, this type of atmosphere is very hard to find in non-RA Math classes. -

i just received email from RGS, my daughter DSA interview will be on next monday (12/07/01)!
she is p6 gep and not need to go for GAT test. -

Congrats to yr daughter for being selected for the interview. BTW, can share what questions they ask during the interview after yr girl had attended on 12/07/01. Believe a lot of parents are interested in this. Thanks a lot in advance.
