Aggregate range of 2019 Primary 6 students posted to 2020 Secondary 1
Affiliation (Lower) 220

I do not think they will change it this year (final year of PSLE TScore) as COP 220 has been used for the past few years. But do call the school if you need to confirm.

Thanks, but I don't need it. Actually, I have nieces in MGS, but my info comes from my mum, so I think something got messed up along the way. I have no official standing except that my mum has asked me to sound out my teacher-friends about sec schools. The general feeling is that my nieces won't make the affiliation cut off and I am supposed to suggest possible sec schools for them. My sis-in-law didn't go through the Singapore education system and is quite stressed, and my brother has no clue either. Not a lot of choice in that range though.

Err... the majority of the secondary schools are in the 188 to 220 range. I suppose by choice, You mean there isn’t a name you really fancy.

A few years back I compiled a list of secondary schools, sorted in descending order of COP. It may not be very up to date now, but the variety of secondary schools there are more or less the same IMO. So please take a look at the choices below 220 in my table.

U can also search online for more recent tables, but the sad thing is most of those compilations tend to focus on the top schools and ignore the 200-220 mark range. I also included NA and NT COPs, sorted, in another table if u need.

I think the “not much choice” idea arises from the fact that NONE of the choices are girls schools. If they are unable to meet the 220 MGS affiliated COP, the reality is they will have to go to a co-ed secondary school. Nothing wrong with that, but u may wish to be mentally prepared it is not as sheltered as an all-girls school.

Well, yes, I suppose it's because the names are not so familiar. They want a school near their home, so I've listed a few for them to look at already. I'll have a look at your list - thanks! We know that they will have to be in a co-ed school, which actually may be a good thing as they are too sheltered (in my opinion). Personally, if their score is within the NA band, I would encourage them to have an extra year in NA, but I think the rest of the family will be very against the idea. It's very hard to be less academic in a family where many are high achievers.

Well my son turned out to be awful at taking paper exams so I can empathize.


If the results happen to be in the NA bracket, the family may wish to take into consideration that these secondary schools have already been piloting the subject-based banding. Possibly in those schools, the dividing line between Express & NA streams is not so stark.

So Eg if their English score is better than the other subjects (which may be the culprits pulling down the T score), then in these SBB secondary schools, they may actually be banded into the Express pull-out class for English, while the weaker subject (Eg Math) may be at NA pace. If Literature is “easy” for them, possibly at Sec 2 they can take it at Express level too.
