Choosing and Evaluating Primary Schools
-
If the question is which school can produce students with high scores in PSLE or stellar exam results, the honest answer would be any school. It’s an issue of an individual’s ability (nature) and how much support he / she gets (nurture).
However, education isn’t just about results. It’s about opportunities to experience new things, to stretch beyond the limits, test your capabilities etc. That, unfortunately, is where the “branded” schools perform better than the neighborhood school. Many parents here, with kids in the “top” secondary schools, will undoubtedly realise that not every secondary school is the same (even though everyone may sit for the same exam). Similar thing for the primary school (except that entry isn’t always based on meritocracy and why some schools Phase 2C is always a dogfight).
Every school, a good school. But not every school will give you an equal experience. -
And the concept of big fish small pond versus small fish big pond. See parents lean towards which one. My hubby came from the latter while I came from the former. We both agreed the latter is better for nurturing kids

Meaning the PSLE results depends on the individual child, not the school nor the teachers (who are rotated anyway). Even within same family (nature + nurture same) also can have different results.[/quote]floppy\" post_id=\"1980181\" time=\"1591682950\" user_id=\"97579:
I agree with all of the above, It depends on the individual and whether the school is a good fit to the individual (fish and pond thing). But not every school will give you an equal experience.
And also, branded schools does not equal good results but the experience those schools provide is what makes them different from the rest. -

Agreed. Even though my kids results suck now, as long as they move along the herd smoothly, I think the sch experience or values should benefit them in the long run. -

Yes, i think he is a maths tutor, which is why it got really stuck in my head — maths tutor who claims kids didnt attend tuition because of insufficient funds, I mean, if you are not attending tuition cos it does not meet your needs, you dont need, you dont believe it in, etc etc, but not enough money, like not enough business? Why not enough business? Oh ok, maybe he is a volunteer tutor. Right.....

My interpretation is he is trying to say his daughter was from GEP, no tuition but still did exceedingly well in PSLE. Isn’t it so common of a typical GEP child who can easily score 270+?
I do not think he is a volunteer tutor though. He is now based in AUS.
