There was some different in opinion about what \"acute\" means in the medical context of COVID-19. Here's the definition in the ST today:

      https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/health/swab-test-generally-painless-but-there-might-be-some-discomfort
\"Acute\" here refers to the condition's sudden onset of symptoms that have a short course, as opposed to chronic conditions such as diabetes, and not the severity of one's condition.
That’s ST trying to justify its choice of words. Good that they acknowledge the ambiguity the word poses !!

So next time when ST reports about someone with acute appendicitis, will they insert a footnote that says, “Acute in this instance means sudden and severe.”

The ST has probably realised that there was much misunderstanding, and they probably should have thought of this earlier. But they are not \"justifying\" their word choice; this use of \"acute\" is correct in medical contexts, which is why it's used in this way to refer to COVID-19 infections. And I wouldn't be surprised if they were just reprinting info provided by MOH. It's just that the non-medical use of the word has different meaning.

There has been cases when I was in a rush and sweating much, my temp was 36 or less.
digital thermometers and especially the non contact type have their limitations.
if you use a traditional mercury thermometer, the temp is usually more consistent and also 37+/- 0.2 thereabout

Can I ask for recommendations for cheaper 3-ply surgical masks? I see Watson’s and major supermarkets selling from $25 onwards (50) but qoo can be selling at half the price. Not sure if any retailers are selling cheaper than watsons or are there any reliable qoo seller/surgical mask brand? Planning to buy quite a lot as I hv 4 sch going kids wearing 1 per day.

I found this webpage that gives details about different masks and certifications (US, Europe, China). Have a look and decide which level of protection you prefer, and look for masks with that certification. The cheap ones may not have certification!

                  https://smartairfilters.com/en/blog/comparison-mask-standards-rating-effectiveness/

On the other hand, a lot of advice now is that any mask will do, especially if everyone else is also masked. There's no need for most people to use a high-protection mask.

On 21st April, 20 community cases - announced extension of CB with a large hidden reservoir!

On 12 June, 18 community cases - announced we are ready to go into phase 2! :scratchhead:

Looking forward to the start of phase 2. Many countries already open up. If we don’t open up, more shops will go bust. But I suppose we will see other challenges with more FWs ready to return back to work and they will start to take buses to Mustafa. DH fears that we may see daily cases surge past 30 after the reopening of phase 2.

I don’t understand why the linked closed contacts of the existing cases are considered “community cases”. It’s obvious they caught it from that family member or housemate at home, not from going out to shop/commute & it spread to them from the community “out there”.

So who qualifies as a “non-community” case? Medical workers or what?
