Comparing vacancies this year vs last year
      Total movers 76
      Increase 71
      Decrease 5

Of those increased, 66 of those were not fully taken up in 2C in 2019, and whilst 5 fully taken up by 2C
Of those decreased, 4 of those were not fully taken up in 2C in 2019, and whilst 1 fully taken up by 2C

Total net increase in numbers is est 2800++

Given the above data, it seems like more ppl will be fighting for a spot in 2Cs, and it maybe a long haul fight if those traditional hot zone become hotter as there is abit imbalance in applicants vs vacancies.

From the increase, MOE look like opening up more spots for school with already available spots, stating quite clearly no more spot given to hot spots. Question will be \"will parents decide to avoid the hot spots and go for other choices?\" or \"will they treat the back up as backup anyway and fight it out in the hotzone first?\" I am more inclined to think of the latter scenario, meaning more people may go for ballot route in 2C. On a flipside, rate of withdrawal may drop as chances are that one may not want to risk a confirmed spot for a fiercer balloting.

Overall it looks like a recipe to hit high record for balloting odds. Parents may have to dig deep and decide what is the route that is according to their choice and risk profile.

      All the best folks.
Yup looks like this year the risk is higher than ever. Going to be tough

How did you arrive at the conclusion that there will be more balloting at 2CS?

2CS schools are the ones no one wants at 2C. If anything the increase from last year is just obviously accommodating higher births which we know happened from 2014.

I think the issue is, none of the parents from 2CS schools are actively voicing out how good their schools are, how happy their kids are in the school. So people continue to think that there’s sthg wrong with those schools cos no supporters.[/quote]
I doubt it makes a difference.

People know that there’s nothing wrong with these schools. The challenge for these schools is that they will never be able to match up with schools that have extra leverage, namely GEP, SAP, affiliation to brand name sec schools, etc. Hence, no matter how much voicing out parents do, they will be, at best, a third tier option.

If the pull factor of other schools is the main reason for the unpopularity of 2CS schools, then there’s no solution ah? Just close down all the 2CS schools with low intake <120 cohort lor.

Which is what MOE had been doing the last couple of years lor.

              Gone-ed:
              - Balestier Hill Primary
              - Loyang Primary
              - MacPherson Primary
              - Coral Primary
              - East Coast Primary
              - Da Qiao Primary
              - East View Primary

And that’s only for last year.

Rename to Gifted Elite Primary (G.E.P.) School.

Super bored. This thread is like so dead after everyone went to WhatsApp group chats.

Is it because the registration hasnt started?

Anyway I dont think it is the name, in every district, there are popular schools, like Northland, Princess Elizabeth, Pasir Ris?

Have to wait till Phase 2A starts.

I think the suggestion is to leave the popular schools as it is, and then rename all the unpopular ones 😂

Frankly speaking, it won’t work cos there will always be one school that’s more popular than another.
