This Thursday is the launch of the new ABRSM Piano Syllabus for the year 2021-2022. I am sure many teachers and students alike are already excited to find out what are the new pieces from the new syllabus.

I will do a Youtube Live session covering pieces from Initial Grade - Grade 5. Pieces from the official exam collection will be performed along with some noteworthy alternative pieces; probably around 60 of them. I will also give tips on how to select pieces from this new syllabus and pointers on selected pieces that you are more likely to teach or learn.

Dear all, please do not engage Mr C near Iittle Guilin at Bukit Batok for piano lesson. He has done something indecent to my Son years ago. It was a police case but they couldn’t arrest him as they said not enough proofs. But my Son could describe all details to me at his young age . Please pm me if you want to know more details. I think he is still teaching and I hope no kids will be harmed by him.

I am proud to announce to publication of the new edition of my Visual Guides to Scales and Arpeggios for Initial Grade-Grade 5 ABRSM Piano. The new edition has been updated with the latest scales and arpeggio requirement that will come into effect from 2021 onwards. They will be available from 9 July onwards, the same day ABRSM launches their new 2021-2022 Piano syllabus. Initially, the books will be sold at Asia Music Store, Renner Piano, and Chiu Piano. Do check out with the stores for the launch promotions they are running for the books. If you prefer a digital copy to view on your tablet or phone, they will be available to purchase on Amazon Kindle Store as well. Plans are ongoing for more retailers to carry the books and a Lazada storefront carrying my books and popular ABRSM publications.

What sets Visual Guides to Scales and Arpeggios apart from other visual scales book in the market is that both fingerings for RH and LH are combined on the same diagrams, thus allowing hands together playing more readily with lesser chance of fingering error. The diagrams are also large, with no more than two occupying a landscape page, thus they are much easier to read especially for young children. Teachers and students who have been using the old edition have seen dramatic reduction in scale learning time. Less scale learning time means more time to learn pieces and less stress! A sample Grade 3 book with redacted pages are available to download from the link below for you to try out.

I will be doing free mini seminars again on the new ABRSM syllabus for the next 2 Mondays, this time on Grade 5 and 8 Exam pieces.

Next Monday, I will be going through all the 9 Grade 5 exam pieces plus 2 alternative pieces from each list. I will perform each piece fully before giving learning and teaching tips.

I will do the session live on 20 July 10:00 AM. You can access the link (and the saved stream afterwards) here:

The following Monday, I will perform and discuss 3 pieces from the Grade 8 syllabus that I find more accessible. They are B5 Chopin's Mazurka Op.17 No 4, B9 Schubert's Impromptu D935 No 2, C3 Sculthorpe's Snow, Moon, and Flowers.

That session will go live on 27 July 10:00 AM at the following link:
