Thanks for your prompt reply.. 😄

My wife is from CHIJ Katong... That is why we are contemplating whether to put her at CHIJ Katong as well, because of Affliation.. But in terms of PSLE Academic Performance from past history, it is very obvious that RGPS, Pei Hwa are the \"better\" schools.. So we are still very undecided... 😞 :stupid:

So what do you think in your experienced opinion we should decide on and move forward with?

      janet_lee88:
      Dear Lionel,
I'm registering my daughter in my former school because of the affiliation. As parents, we don't know how our kids will perform in school esp near the critical year (PSLE). There are many factors which can affect how the kids perform.
By registering my daughter in CHIJ TP, I know she has a place in the sec school as long as she meets the criteria. For my son, he has to work doubly hard to gain a place in the secondary school say for eg SJI or ACS. The cut off points for 'outsiders' is 240 or even higher as compared for their own students.

        Dear Lionel,

Deciding on the primary school depends on the parents…I would say it’s rather personal.

My son is in Pei Hwa (primary 4 this year) and many would have thought I would register my younger one in PH as well (the only phase confirm place). However, there is no affiliated sec school for Nanyang, RGPS, Pei Hwa. So students from these schools have to work doubly hard to get into their choice sec schools.

I was still very undecided in the beginning half of this year but hubby finally convinced me that CHIJ TP is the best option. As long as daughter meets the minimum criteria, she will have a place in the sec school. If she does well, she can even choose to go to another sec school or stay put.

We are looking forward to register daughter at my former school on July 15. Hope you are able to decide and come to a decision with your wife.

Hi, my son is up for the p1 registration exercise in july. All along, our plan was to send him to SJI Jr where my hubby was an old boy. After much consideration and much debate over the standard of SJI jr, we have decided to look closer to home, and NYPS which is within 1km of where we stay is our choice.

So, the plan is to secure a place at SJI Jr first, and then try for a place at NYPS. But can someone please enlightened me on how to do this? I understand that you have to ‘park’ each parent at the 2 schools, and ‘let go’ of one before you can take the other. How does it really work? Will I end up with no school if the timing is off? Thank you in advance!

If you are going to be at phase 2C for a place at NYPS…it is almost certain you would need to ballot (for those within 1km). So…I guess it all depends are whether you want to give up the place at SJI Jr to ballot at NYPS.

tks voovoo. so in order to be eligible for balloting, i have to give up my place at SJI jr first?

Yes...so you may want to monitor your odds (sure to ballot at Phase 2C within 1k) and then decide if you would want to take the chance to ballot...if you do, you have to withdraw from SJI Jr first.

                    That's right.

You can register your child in SJI under Phase 2A. When it comes to Phase 2C, if you decide to register your child in NYPS, you need to first withdraw your registration with SJI before you are allowed to register in NYPS. The computer system used by MOE is real time. Hence, NYPS will know if you have already applied with another school, and yet to withdraw your application with School 1.

One parent needs to be at School 1 to withdraw the application before the second parent at School 2 is able to register. Timing is crucial here, so, yes, there is a possibility that you may miss the deadline for Phase 2C registration.

since you stay so near to nyps, you should have applied for parent volunteer at nyps to get yourself into phase 2B

but anyway, SJI Jnr is still good

I know...it's like what if I do and what if I don't...when is the registeration for your son? Was he born in a \"popular\" year?
