No lah... no missing out one lah...kibblesmoke\" post_id=\"1987681\" time=\"1595674994\" user_id=\"186044:You ave said that you had tried calling them and no one pick up your call, that's why I have suggested you to email them.
Sometime it is just too coincidental that someone might just be left out of the notification by the admission team. As the wait has been very near the end and it is good to find out if your DD is still in the queue wait-lists or being left out.

Government wants to be inclusive now ... Don't u realised all the scholarship holders featured in newspapers are those who have overcame diversities, some from families with challenging backgrounds etc etc.WearMask\" post_id=\"1987637\" time=\"1595649433\" user_id=\"185947:

Indeed NUS med selection criteria has truly diversified this year... Anyone with 5* to 8* have good chance to be admitted regardless of which school...even 8* also maybe not accepted or waitlisted..
We used to joke that if your dad is in prison and your mum is a drug abuser and u have 5As, YLL will want u so PM can feature you at NDP rally
haha...
LKC needs a good BMAT scores... so not surprised that many of those high achievers are from RI, HCI. LKC dean also said most of their students are straight As students. LKC is affiliated to Imperial. So I bet Imperial has a say on the type of students that they want. In fact, I heard some of the interviewers were from Imperial. So typically, Imperial London takes in the very top academic students in London, so probably similar criterias here.
Anyone with 5* can put in an application to NUS but not to LKC. So that kind of explains why LKC has more than 40% from RI and 20% from HCI. Not so much that the school favours RI, HCI students but rather their BMAT selection criterias seek them out. Of course, there are also those with very high BMAT who did not get LKC. They probably didn't perform well at the interviews or other aspects of their criterias do not meet what LKC is looking for.
8As in RI and HCL are not rare, but get 5As in such environment is. and most probably his/her IQ and ability to overcome difficulty and learn is much more than 8As.[/quote]With your statement, u are making assumption that 5As hv higher IQ and ability than the 8As. There could also be many 5As who has been failing in school exams and somehow after the tscore moderation, managed to get 5As etc (like my daughter who gave us a surprise) and we are worried if NUS selected the right candidates this year without SJT and just made decisions based on a few minutes interview and whether she could cope in NUS. -

Hi! WearMask,

Your DD knows better. The good results that she got was the consistency of her studies that went through various stages of the studying process in school. If she is able to take stress and handle the load of the subjects she is studying then you shouldn't be worrying.
Example my son from a neighbourhood Primary and Secondary School, has been doing fine in his studies and exams. Obtained a 2 pointers after offsetting from his bonus points (HCL subject) at 'O' level and got in to an elite JC. The environment has become very challenging, tight competition, peers pressure, taking subjects at higher levels and with very minimal coaching from the teachers. It was totally a strange new environment and he has to begin coping with it from day one. All his peers were from their affiliate primary and secondary school. They were well prepared for this new environment 2 years before coming into their JC. So what do you think of an ordinary 'O' level student from an ordinary neighborhood school? His peers were a mixes of races and also foreign, they were all smart, bright and ambitious. They ace through all exams with a breeze. Well, my son has to study extremely hard to be on par with them else he will be considered an outcast of his class and a shame.
It was of no fault of his \"elite\" school and the smart students. Yes, it was a challenging and stressful environment but it takes time for him to familiarize the ground. Fortunately his earlier schooling days has taught him how to juggle and spread out his time to study productively. Else he would be burnt-out by stress and worries.
From then his peers and teachers respected him for his courage and abilities. Those that is not prepared to be in the \"elite\" school should not try to join such schools. They are better off studying in a normal JC with teachers and students that are helpful, friendlier and approachable.
So your DD knows much better about her abilities. If she has accepted to go ahead with her choice then I believe she has the determination to do well. -

Hi all, my DS was not offered a place in LKC. Disappointed especially since it has been a very long wait, but Iβm sure he will be able to excel in another course.

With your continued encouragement and support, your intelligent and resilient son will thrive in his course. It is not necessarily a bad outcome.

Hi! Kibblesmoke,
Hi all, my DS was not offered a place in LKC. Disappointed especially since it has been a very long wait, but I'm sure he will be able to excel in another course.
No worry, you have good company. At least we know the wait was finally over.
If your DS is still passionate about medicine, he could still pursue a post-graduate MD at Duke-NUS after getting his degree or if he is serving NS, he can still try applying again next year via Aptitude Based Admissions. All roads lead to Rome and if there's a will there's a way.
Quotes that will inspire your DS on his next course of study: -
1 β βSuccess is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.β β PelΓ©, Brazilian football legend.
2 β βTalent is cheaper than table salt. What separates the talented individual from the successful one is a lot of hard work.β β Stephen King, author.
May the future be peaceful, prosperous and joyful for all of us here and our childrens. See you soon, cheers and adios! -
Thank you lunchmoney & Desmond, really appreciate all your kind words
My DS has decided to stick with what he has in NUS, maybe try for Duke in the years to come. Once again, thank you all for your kind words and encouragement, may the Lord bless us and our children!
