      For SJI

Aggregate range of 2009 Primary 6 pupils posted to 2010 Secondary 1
      Non-Affiliation Affiliation
Lower Upper Mean Median Lower Upper Mean Median
      Express 241 260 246 245 238 268 246 244

The 3 point difference is not because of stingy discount, more because many high scorers went elsewhere

as is evident, the affiliate student has as high as 268 - eligible for HCI or RI but chose to stay in SJI

I agree but i really don't know very much abt sji. And i hope everything works out for the best no matter which sch he ends up with. Not much of a gambler, may just stay on with sji and put up with driving up and down.

Actually distance plays an important part too, as u can cut down a lot on travelling time if u choose NYPS instead of SJI. So I can understand ur dilemma...

I have a fren who was in a similar as you two years ago. Her husb was ex pupil of PCPS but she stays within 1km of HPPS, which balloted within 1km every year. In the end, her husb withdrew from PCPS (P2A) and she registered in HPPS (P2C) the last minute, as they decided that the balloting chance in HPPS for 55 kids out of 53 places was worth the risk to take. End up the school later called them that there were 2 pairs of twins among the 55 applicants. So in that year (2008), for the first time in history, HPPS did not ballot within 1km under phase 2C at all. They were so happy.

That saying, you still have to decide for yourself on that final day whether you wish to take the risk of balloting, or to choose the safer option but longer travelling time. Do note that there was no balloting in NYPS in year 2007 under 2C for those staying within 1km. So good luck!

thanks everyone. I’ll just keep debating till the last day and watch the numbers like a hawk. If it’s in my favour, then we’ll go with nyps. fingers crossed!

Actually, why don't you register with SJI during P2A first, and monitor the situation in P2C for NYPS? A rabbit in one hand is better than two in the bushes.

Isnt this what she would be doing?

                Hi Jessnom,

I agree with qms, register with SJI first to solve that immediate worry.
Phase 2C is a phase most parents do not wish to be in, unless there is a 90% chance of getting in.

relax no need to club yourself. Will probably club myself come july. My son likes to be the leader, but tends to hate it when he can't do something well. So i really have to ask myself if NYPS is the school for him, with all the very bright kids over there. I don't want his self esteem to take a beating. Also, my hubby is not chinese, and we do not speak mandarin at home (though I'm trying very hard to do that), NYPS's chinese may be a little too \"atas\" for him. Eng/Maths I do not foresee a problem, he learns quite fast and well. And at the end of it all, there's PSLE to think about. :?:

i personally would find the pressure of the high std of chinese a challenge…but we would still like our children to go to NYPS due to the emphasis on chinese culture (which is impt to us as parents)…I intend to put them in NYPS anyway…if they can’t survive, I’ll think of alternative but at least I’d like them to give it a try.

BTW, I’ve seen caucasian and indian students in NYPS…if Jim Rogers’ daughter can do it so can everyone else if they want to…my personal opinion…

                        Applaud your perserverance regarding chinese.

BTW, JR can afford chinese live-in nanny for his daughter...not everyone can leh. 😉
