I second what skii said, some RC are very strict, they remove you once you shift house, so even if you serve 2 years in your previous estate, you might find that you are not eligible for 2B endorsement.

The part about competing the 2 years as EM is Easy.

The tricky part is once shift house - will the chairman demote or sack your friend. Given that he/she doesn’t stay at the grc anymore, It doesn’t cost the chairman to act.

      So plan properly.
Talk to chair if possible to “coax” him to not sack.

Hello everyone, I'm asking this on behalf of a friend who is seeking advice on her GRL plans. She just applied to be a GRL at an RC. And her plan is to complete 2 years as an EM there, and after that, move to another GRC before the start of her child's P1 registration to apply for a school there.

Has anyone does this before? Is it feasible? Or is any GRL work that is done only recognised within the GRC in question? She hasn't started any GRL work yet, btw. Should I be advising her to find ways to apply to be a GRL at her preferred GRC to begin with (ie. where her preferred school is located)?

      Thank you.

Grassroot Member (GRM) is not the same as Grassroot leader(GRL)

As far as I know, GRM is not consider EM and cannot take up office bearer positions in Exco(only GRL can), therefore not eligible for phase 2B endorsement. Please confirm with CM or CD to verify the difference.

Some people blur blur join as GRM for years then found out not eligible for 2B.

Hi all, need some guidance here. I am
Planning for my child’s 2024 P1 admission. So recently came across Grassroot leader website. Signed up at the pa.gov website, cc called me and passed my contact to RC. So I was told like what you all have been saying 6months or more observant period. Could someone please confirm if volunteer at RC is acceptable for Phase 2B enrollment? Also, how would I know if I have passed my observant period? Is there someone which I would need to inform to tell them my intention (though i have already told CC personnel who called me). Is Grassroot “member” status same as Grassroot “leader” status? Thanks.

Yes, RC will be considered eligible for 2B. You will be informed that you are registered as an Executive Member with a cert. It's called EM, means GRL already. For your case to register in 2023 for 2024 P1, need to be EM by May 2021 as Grassroots connect portal will open around May/Jun for application. You are slightly tight in your schedule. Need to chase them.

Grassroots leaders are volunteers who have contributed to community work and have being nominated to office positions. Every GRO contains a list of office positions as follows:

          Chairman
          Vice Chairman
          Secretary
          Assistant Secretary
          Treasurer
          Assistant Treasurer
          Auditor
          Assistant Auditor
          Executive Members

The below is typical GRO setup, but there is also GRM included. GRL is subjected to contribution and attendance scrutiny and eligible for office bearer positions whereby GRM can come and go as they wish. So if the CC give u GRM, check with them if this is temporary arrangement and can move up to EM or office bearer positions later. Or else you will not be eligible for 2B if you are GRM.

The link points to a flow, which starts with Volunteer -> Observer -> EM -> Office bearers
I believe the GRM you mentioned is the 1st stage, Volunteer.
So if you start going to meetings, you are already at the Observer stage, which should take 6-12 months to become EM.

                Not observer.

                Can go garden party.
                5 year cert.

                But no carpark

My son will be registering for P1 in 2024. So I’m planning ahead for it.

Assuming that I can get into CCMC by 2021 in eg Holland Bukit Timah GRC, this means I can get the letter for phase 2B registration in the GRC I reside in right?

My place is in golden triangle in Newton, so within 1Km to ACS junior, ACS primary and SJIJ.
If I am reading the balloting history correctly, for ACS Junior, in phase 2B, there is balloting even for 1km SC. Although ACSJ is my preferred choice cos it’s within walking distance, Seems like my chance would be higher in SJIJ. But SJIJ is in another GRC, even though it is within 1km. So if I rent a place to be in the same GRC as SJIJ which is within 1Km to SJIJ, and assuming I get successful in SJIJ, can I shift back to my place, after securing a place, which is in TG PAGAR GRC and still within 1Km from SJIJ?

You can’t get into CCMC (If you can get into CCMC, you won’t be asking).

For your case, you should be on the look out for NC.

I suggest you go for ACSJ in 2B, not every year balloting is so bad for <1km. And if unsuccessful, go for SJIJ in 2C, most years don’t need to ballot for <1km, even if need to ballot, chances are very high.

Thank you! This is helpful. This is definitely one strategy I will consider. I was just wondering if I want a less stressful registration, should I go for SJIJ in phase 2B.
I suppose I can also analyse the next few years. I will have to see how new condos in the area can affect my chances for both ACSJ and SJIJ.
