Jennifer:
i heard that your girl got the highest mark in class for EL compo? congrats! And to Jennifer's son too who did better than all the kids in Faith3!dyh:
Yup, according to my child, usually highest score around 16/17 out of 20. This SA1, the highest in her class is 16/20. Jennifer's son scored 17, right? Tat's job well done!!
I am surprised. Now should I let him know abt this? In case, his head gets bigger. As at now, he is already less willing to practise MA and revise EL this hols becos he feels he is already good :x
let him know and challenge him to maintain this standard. this may motivate him. -
Jennifer:
  But the fact is, he is really good.

I asked mine to practise compo thruout this month, she also negotiated with me. Now, she did not even start with any tat she has committed.
The only committment she fulfilled was book reading, she finished the no. of books she supposed to read for the entire month.
Other than tat...I am still waiting. Usually I 'asked' for more so tat there are allowances for her to nego. Still, actual vs planned, always a discrepancy.

hmm...i wonder what is the highest mark in level.Ytd, I was chatting with some P5 girls, although a few of you have mentioned abt P5 maths earlier on, I was still in shock when the girls told me tat the cohort avg this SA1 for Maths was only 44. One kid in CH failed and abt 10 failure in Gr and in following classes, almost all failed. Even if a child scores 49, above cohort avg, its still quite demoralising to fail the subject. Its an overkill if the motive for setting such high std is to make the kids work harder.
I hope the school will do something abt this and will be more sensitive/concern of the consequences it will bring about. Anyone knows, is this the first time of such massive failure in PH? -

I dug up my elder boy's P5 SA1 stats for MA:
Highest cohort 95 (highest CH 95)
Avg cohort 56 (avg CH 81) -

This is the same issue as the PSLE maths during the past few yrs. students and parents complained it was tough, we heard of students crying after exam etc. yet when the results came out, students were pleasantly surprised by their high T-score. PSLE is abt how you rank in the cohort, not how high you score in the paper. so i suppose PH is now trying to do the same thing to the students to condition them? hmm..Ytd, I was chatting with some P5 girls, although a few of you have mentioned abt P5 maths earlier on, I was still in shock when the girls told me tat the cohort avg this SA1 for Maths was only 44. I believe the school is trying to condition the students for a tough paper. But to sieve out the good from average, shouldnโt the school set some tough questions instead of having a tough paper ? Itโs a pressure cooker studying in this school, failing exams despite working so hard is very demoralizing.

Hi Mummies,
Have you all flew off for a holiday overseas ?
Itโs unlike this thread to be so quiet. -

Been busy entertaining the kids. Plus now the PC is dominated by #2 doing e-learning and playing games.Hi Mummies,

Jennifer,
Same here. Can't wait for school to reopen when I get peace again.
My daughter is either bugging me to tie her hair, put tattoo on ears and fingers, read her a book etc etc. I told both of them to play Wii to give myself a break but they bug me still.
