May I enquire if PV who complete their full hours - automatically get a place? Or distance still plays a part (or balloting)? Thanks![/quote]

Hi everyone! 😄 My SG50 daughter's registration will be next year and we are leaning towards Admiralty Primary as it is within 1km. However, i noticed that their school hours are pretty long as compared to many other schools.

          For P1 and P2 levels:
          10am to 2.40pm on Mondays
7.30am to 2.10am on Tuesdays to Fridays

          For P3 and up:
          7.30am to 2.40pm on Mondays
7.30am to 2.10am on Tuesdays to Fridays

Many other schools dismiss the children by 1+ which makes alot of difference for them to get home early to rest.

Anyone has kids in Admiralty, please share your thoughts about this. Is there any reason why the dismissal is late?

          Thanks! :rahrah:

Hi, I joined the school in 2014. I went through the afternoon session in P1 and P2. It is no longer there. It is such a pity because I only woke up at 8, did my last minute homework, left the house at 940 and then went to school. The school didn’t even have a lift until 2018. THe ISh came last year. However, the academics is very good. Our exam paper are harder than that of other schools. And if you are not one of the top kids, you are in some trouble. You see, since some children are slower to understand things, the teachers have to go through the easier things for a longer time. And then there is no time to cover the difficult things that come up in the exams. But for me, I enjoyed the challenge. Though you have to keep in mind, that to manage the difficulty level and do well in exams, you need to go for several tuitions. Pretty much every kid in challenge went to tuition(i was from there). Though challenge is not the top anymore since streaming stopped. I was the last batch. From 2021, the psle scoring is going away. I just want to remind you that more time for fun activities doesn’t mean it is good. Because the kids who are gullible and enjoy themselves to their heart’s content because their homework load is light suddenly repent for their mistakes when the practice papers get tough and the exams are difficult. I often used to compare my test papers with my friends from other schools and realised how hard mine were. My parents used to compare my marks with them and often used to say I was scoring badly. Parents, please note that if your kid scores lower than peers from other school, it’s NOT you CHILD’S FAULT. It is the DIFFICULTY OF THE EXAM PAPER. This helped me in the longer run, but the stress that came from it was immeasurable. This is my honest opinion.

Any 2020 p1 parents here can help to shed some lights whether your child did use this english textbook? Its in the booklist but many shared that school doesn’t use the activity book and chinese flashcard.

                Thank you.

Hello there parents and soon-to-be parents of ADMPS student ,

Just like to share that ADMPS is a great school
In the north and my two DDs benefitted from studying there 😄 They truly enjoyed themselves and the programs are great. It is a neighbourhood school but a very good onwith high standards and good caring teachers. My DDs went through two Principals and they are both great - encouraging, hands-on and always implementing new initiatives in the school. Teachers are giving out extra lessons during exams period and sometimes late in the evening. They just want to make sure that the students are well prepared and will do their best. Happy to answer questions about the school either here or via PM. :celebrate:

@ddddvvvv Congratulations! Your child is in the most popular school in Woodlands this year.

Being so, you should prepare your child as much as you can for P1 next year. There’s still plenty of time, so no worries.

The most important thing is your child’s knowledge of English. He should be well versed in the alphabet now and be able to read simple story books. In fact, enticing your child to read is the best thing you can do! For my time, Enid Blyton is my most beloved author, but I’m sure you can find others appropriate now.

For me, Chinese was a bit tricky as we only talk in cantonese (plus English, when we want to speak so that our illiterate parents don’t understand 😆 ). That can be corrected by giving him tuition or going for one of the enrichment centres.

For Math, your child needs to be able to count to 100 before getting into primary school, and understand at least addition and subtraction of those numbers. I think that should suffice as preparation for his primary education.
