I tried to take a shortcut by checking the BSP and CLEP on DHS website, hopefully to save waiting time from MOE.
In the page https://dunmanhigh.moe.edu.sg/td-languages/, the 2 links to BSP and CLEP are broken ones, so looks like it's back to MOE (HQ). -

Not sure if this would help. CLEP is for those who are interested in the language itself. The focus is more on Chinese Literature and creative writing. BSP is more for those who are into being able to straddle both East and West well. Besides needing a strong command of both languages, BSP students will also study the culture and political systems of East (mainly China) and West (UK & US). The student will also study translation.

I do not know the specifics of the curriculum by DHS but given that both programmes are MOE programmes, they shouldn't differ too greatly from school to school. -

For CLEP, there is room for improvements (as in all things) but overall good efforts mainly from students and staff. Also assuming that any other school with CLEP will have similar content coverage up to roughly year 4 (not exactly year 4 end), not necessarily how the program is executed. IP seems to have flexibility to allow for 'advanced learning' not available to O level students by schools but the assumption could be way off for all we know.
If the content coverage is about the same for schools up till year 4, it's more meaningful to know how the assessment criteria are mapped out. Excluding school-related concerns, there seems to be some risks/ uncertainties in DS's interests in some areas. At this point, it's hard to gauge the impact unless there are insights on how large those areas are. If a large proportion of the curriculum is devoted to areas out of his interests, then he should not jump into the program unless the risks are mitigated. If the affected areas are small enough, it's not a bad option.
In addition, I have my views on what areas are more meaningful/ less meaningful and they may not coincide with his (part of the reason I sensed this Chinese interaction will become a heavy sub-topic and can only engage him after PSLE).
For BSP which goes for \"basic translation skills, and to take them to new levels of creative expression and critical analysis\", even short examples of works can provide insights that we cannot glean and calibrate easily from what the website explains. Probably, this could only be addressed through physical open houses and not online, so we will first keep in mind what is known and unknown. -

Thank you. I am interested in both of these for our kids, but do worry that it will constrain them a bit in the upper-Sec and JC subject combinations. Of course, a lot will depend on exactly what they excel at and are interested in doing...

Thanks again. My apologies that I knew too little to provide a response that demonstrated enough understanding of CLEP yesterday. I actually went through the TJC website again to see if I missed anything, after viewing the DHS sites.

If DS sees the TJC website, he would ask why programs with strong focus in Chinese (supposedly at high level) are presented only in English online. In the mother tongue sites of the same JC, English is also the only medium used for summaries. Locally, most subjects covered are already in the English medium and even for non-English subjects, explanations are only available in English (?) Not privy to the school's considerations but gives the impression that the environment is English-based, and doing a promotion for a Chinese-related program mainly because the program is available. -
