My child is in p5 this yr. Would like to know, what more would sch P6 curriculum be teaching kids in compo writing? Would like to know if child will get to improve further next yr, if child is getting above 30 and comfortably writing 6 pages in exam time limit.

Is there alternative to fixed approach to English compo writing by tuition centre? Individual compo marking and feedback on how to enhance quality of writing? Any mummy can recommend?

If child uses too many direct speech, should we try to change her?

"OK, let’s go!", Ann answered excitedly.

          Without hesitation, Ann agreed excitedly.

Direct Speech should be used sparingly. The child is ultimately writing a composition and not recounting a conversation. And if a child is too dependent on direct speech, he/she will very likely face a problem writing essays at the secondary and tertiary levels. Narratives essays will be almost non-existent then, and the child will have no direct speech to fall back on for his/her writing.

If your child is always scoring above 34 already, then it means your child is already doing what exam requires for high marks. Not to say cannot improve further but it will be a lot harder. Hard to comment what needs to be done to improve scores without seeing your child's writing. If child is scoring above 30 but below 34, then definitely still room for improvement. One most likely area of improvement is the use of figurative language.

              My two cents.

Child’s writing is in current level for 1 to 2 years, always has been on her own without extra help. Scoring low 30 for past months this year p5.

If scoring a few points more to ard 34, it could mean a difference of getting AL1 instead of AL2, as I am guessing she is hovering between AL1 and AL2. I am not sure if by giving her extra help, is it possible to obtain those few points but admitting that we have to be cautious.

Hi! I have a question about the PSLE listening comprehension exam. Can someone tell me if the questions and 4 options of the MCQs are read aloud in the recording? I know the texts are read aloud, and I believe the questions are as well. But what about the 4 choices? Thanks!

Hi slmkhoo, did manage to get an answer to your qn?

DS says yes, the 4 choices are read aloud too.

It was a while back ... I think we were told that the 4 choices were not read out.
