Next year is SG50 registration for P1… what are you guys’ thoughts on the balloting history??

eg: normally no ballot for the respective phases, eg 2A1 or 2A2, do u guys think there will ballot this time round?, considering its SG50 babies??

It might be, depending on which school you are looking at.

I do expect the level of competition to be on par with Dragon, looking at the live birth rates.

Phase 2A is an unique phase. Due to the phase restrictive nature in terms of eligibility, it’s not so straightforward as higher birth rate = increased competition.

Generally speaking, expect an increased competition for schools with MK (though most would still be able to absorb the increased number of applicants, but would present problems for applicants in the subsequent phases), and heightened competition for schools that traditionally ballot or have a strong presence of alumni. Phase 2A2 who have yet to join their alumni association (if available) and move up to Phase 2A1 may have to say bye-bye to their hope of heading back.

For the rest, not so much difference.

I agree. SG50 and SG51 could be as hot as (or even hotter than) Dragon batch. For those who want to refer back, Dragon batch registered in 2018. See here for the balloting history:

                  https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=91621&start=20

To summarize, Phase 2A1 saw balloting for 3 hot schools:
                  - St Nick's (>2km)
                  - Catholic High (>2km)
                  - Henry Park (>2km)

A few other schools had close to 90% take up rate in 2A1:

                  - Nanyang Primary (95%)
                  - Red Swastika (92% TUR)
                  - Ai Tong (87%)
                  - [Pei Chun 70%]

Bottomline: if you are living outside 2km and don't want to ballot, maybe you can consider moving nearer your old school. Now property market may be having some good deals anyway. (Ahem...i just threw Pei Chun in because i'm living in TPY)

The problem is, if you are in Phase 2A2, and have chosen not to join their association (for Phase 2A1 eligibility), moving to within 1km may not help you much for these schools (PCPS still safe lah). They are very likely to join the ranks of schools that ballot in Phase 2A1.

Oh I’m pretty sure the alumni of the first 4 schools I listed have already joined their alumni association long ago to increase their chances from 0 (in 2A2) to some (in 2A1). Unless they’ve been living under a rock somewhere. And plenty of 2A1 SNGS gals have been flocking/roosting back to AMK even if their kids are not SG50/SG51.

                      As for 2A2 i think you’re the expert so i won’t comment.

If they miss 2A2 due to balloting in 2A1, they can still do a \"missed approach\" and try for 2C if they are really within 1km though the odds would have been much more unfavorable.
