Hi mummies,
May i ask for those who got selected for GEP, is the letter and necessary info in a big brown envelope or in a small white envelope?
My son told me his classmate got a small white envelope but he himself did not get anything.
Thanks. -

Yes. My DS brought back the letter today, yes without envelope. The letter is encouraging but rejected one. Since my DS doesn’t want to change school, it was relief for him.

Hello daddies and mummies, does anyone know how gep school posting works, as in how a school decides whether to accept a student into their gep programme? Is it based on (gep tests scores), distance between home and school, or P3 exam results?
Thanks -

Based on the following criteria:

1. Are you already in that GEP school;
2. Do you already have a sibling in that GEP school;
3. Distance from the GEP school;
4. The type of school the child was from (SAP, mission, or single-gender school) which is similar to the GEP school;
The large majority gets their first choice.
You yourself have to decide whether HCL is for your child. I think there are some schools that cannot drop HCL. Not sure whether this is still true.
All the GEP schools now practice intermingling form classes.
Only NYPS girls have an affiliation with NYGS IP, while others have an affiliation to O levels program.
There are easier GEP schools and tougher GEP schools. Choose wisely depending on your child's temperament character, and attitude towards study. -
Speaking from a GEP parents, my boy is in GEP P4 this year, however, he struggle very badly as he is not the top student since P1-3, he is just a middle range student who scores around 80s for most subject. GEP has a minimum passing mark of 70% and their paper are much much harder compared to mainstream. Somehow, this year is very stressful for myself and my boy. He has officially failed his 2 subject (with not meeting the 70%) mark, I am waiting for teacher’s advise, what is going to happen to him. In my opinion, if any middle range kids who got into GEP, they need to really sacrafice a lot more, additional tution and more homework, I am a more relax parents therefore we really suffer.
I don’t believe in just study and no play, I still allow play time for him as I feels that he is already trying so hard and stress. If we have another chance to choose again, we might drop GEP as this is really too stressful for us since we are not the top performer student. Parents in the GEP class are also not very keen to share information as they are too competitive.
Another thing to mention GEP sylabus are very secretive no guidelines or textbook on what topic they are learning. No 10 years series or anything, therefore it is not easy to to guide the kids. -
Mine is in p6 gep this yr and during the briefing, we heard that so far only 1 or maybe 2 students left the program. So they are very confident that their selection criterion is robust. If u didn’t deliberately prep him to get into gep, he shld have the intellectual capacity to cope.
That being said, p4 was a transition yr that could be slightly challenging. but i don’t rem mine being exceptionally stressed nor did i have to go for extra tuition and he wasn’t in your words "top performer in the mainstream classes" too. What was more difficult was the filing he needs to do as there are no textbooks.
