I did know a few of them around me using the letter to change to a popular school (not GEP listed school) . Usually there will be seats available for P4.
My child has a classmate who was transferred from a less popular pri school to my child's school (supposed to be more academic focused) in P4. This classmate is also a boy, always perfect score for Maths since P1. Offered GEP in P3. But parents chose to reject GEP but used the GEP offer to transfer to a more demanding school.
Maybe those esp. boys excel only in Maths/Sci, can consider this path instead. Why boys? Well, it was rumored that boys are favoured in GEP selection. So boys are more likely to be selected than girls.
The transfer is good for the boy, he can see other kids who are as good as him in Maths, and better than him in languages. Staying in his less demanding school could be really boring for him.

It takes courage and self-confidence to go against \"conventional\" wisdom. Indeed, at the end of the day, it is what we want out of the learning journey in those few years. While he wont know what he has given up, the most important to me is to focus on what he has once that decision is made.
My eldest got into gEP in 2017 but we didn transfer him out. Reason was because we didn wan to stress him and location of school was so far from my house. Many would say it wad a waste as we had a good chance to get into elite school. However we preferred current school as it was just 5mins walk from home. By changing the school I must ensure I had someone to help me to fetch him if school had any activities after school hours. By not transferring him, he had more time to zzz, play and revise. No tution for my kids. I was blessed that he did really well for psle and managed to achieve national top 10%. Today elder also got his GEP offer too. Another thing to mention GEP sylabus are very secretive no guidelines or textbook on what topic they are learning. No 10 years series or anything, therefore it is not easy to to guide the kids.
One of my friend's son also got GEP offer too. Went rosyth 2years ago and dropped out from there after a few months. Transferred back to old school as son didn not like the environment.
To me , end of the day everyone will still be taking psle. My friends said I made the wrong decision for not changing to an elite school (future their kids can get into easily or requires lower psle score to get into afflicted sec school). We always want our kids to be happy and we feel proud of them no matter which schools they r in

[/quote]Eldest is sensible and he told us not to change his school as he would miss his friends. On the other hand, my elder has ADHD and he is under medication now. He is giving us lots of problem in school. Every week school will call us. He always refuses to do his homework, spelling , ting xie and corrections or submit his schoolworks . He is very mischievous chap and always giving teachers loosing their temper VERY OFTEN. Sad to say not many teachers would empathise and have patience for my son.
If I change him to a new school, School will stress on him too -
I’m considering between Rosyth and Catholic High as we stay in the North. The CcA choices are more in Rosyth which makes it more attractive but not so sure by P4 most popular cca would be taken up by P3, will there be any left for P4?
Wonder if there any cheaper car pool services from North to Rosyth as the bus fare is quite high. -
For P4 GEP students new to the school, they will be with the P3 choosing their preferred CCA. Nobody will be left out.
My son is currently in P5 GEP, we were abit hesitant whether to let him go for this program as well. He didnt attend any prep classes or tuition at all. So when he was selected and after attending the GEP talk, we felt it could be beneficial for him with regards to the learning environment and more in depth discussion on the subjects. During P3 he will be bored in class and often start reading his storybook and I got feedback from T a couple of times.
Beginning 6 months in P4 was getting used to programme and work given, but the homework given is not as much as compared to his previous neighbourhood primary school. He likes the challenging Math questions. For English they have to do writing and T will teach them how to write better etc. There are projects to do in team and individual as well. I will constantly keep checking with him if he is enjoying the programme, and he said definitely. Even though he is not the top students in his class anymore (no more awards 😅), he is enjoying the challenging questions given.
Not true about the competitive parents in GEP. My son have a few close friends and we mummies will meet up for playdates (before Covid), talked about anything and sharing tips on work as well. It's a new journey for our children and parents alike. Smile and talk to the parent next to you and chat abit, you will find that they are also feeling the same uncertainty like you. -
How is Chinese taught in GEP? GEP letter says enriched Chinese. My son is weak in Chinese. Is non-SAP GEP considered less stressful GEP school? Briefing is online this year and unable to chat with other parents…

Chinese is harder than higher Chinese in SAP school. Non SAP schools have similar standard

Would you and any parents advise how Chinese is taught differently in GEP aside from the difficulty? Or is it same?
It might be rather fundamental problem but current teaching and leaning style is not working for him. Does minimum score of 70% apply to Chinese? -
It is taught similarly as per the school structure. But there are more vocabulary introduced. I would think that the passing mark remains the same as mainstream.

My DD school gave out the letter yesterday. Those not selected got a white slip too. Her school got 4 selected for GEP and she got it. I am very headache now if want to enroll her or not. I actually preferred she not being selected so I no need to make any decision.
