Comparing Pre-school English Reading and Phonics Enrichment
-
We did I can read but it didnt help. Could not even engage my kid.
But Foochow Methodist Church Kindergarten experienced teachers helped my kid. -
Probably it is about readiness of the child?
-
Sometimes it is about the willingness of the child to speak in front of strangers.
Eg my friend’s girl, very shy & introvert type. Could not pass the I Can Read test to progress on to the next level. Because they insisted she must read out loud to the unfamiliar teacher/tester otherwise not considered pass.
The girl’s parent (my friend) said the girl can read the same tested passage perfectly fine at home, in front of the parent. But freezes up whenever tested in the ICR setting.
At that young preschooler age, does it really matter so much…? Duh… -
I sent my DD1 to ICR since N1. Her progress was damn slow, ICR teacher refused to promote her. It was frustrating. For my DD2, I straight away enrol for the ICR program in K2 (don’t wish to waste money).
My girls took 1 year to complete this ICR program (during K2) and I think their signature 1 year ICR program is really helpful and value for money. -
Any feedback about MindChamps Reading Program? I have been trying to search from this thread but it seems that there is only limited post about it. I was looking for a reading enrichment program and MindChamps caught my eyes because of their well-thought plan. I am planning to have my child enrolled to their JoeyProgramme, I think that is for beginners. As what I have read from their website, their method sounds like mimicking what the teacher says. I wish to confirm its effectiveness to the fellow parents here who have chosen MindChamps for their child. Thank you.

My kid attended the reading programme at MC Woodlands and it is a good enrichment programme for a young reader.
