The COP is the most important factor, as it determines whether you can/can't go. Some people may not want to select a school if you only met the COP. This could be due to a number of factors; don't want to be below average, always feel stress of trying to keep up with others, fewer opportunities to represent school in competitions/selected for special programmes, etc.

Thus, if you want to be around average can try for a school where your score is more in-line with the median. A few caveats to this are:

        a) the COP and median may move up and down a few points each year due to demand and test difficulty. Targeting last year's median may only mean so much when you actually get there.

        b) for some of these schools, there isn't that large of a spread between the COP and Median. I.e. there isn't really that big of a difference among most students' ability (say those scoring between i) COP and ii) 2 x Median - COP). Work ethic, focus, etc may be as big of a factor in how these students perform.

There's no right or wrong answer here (COP or Median). All depends on what you are comfortable with.

While median does say where the majority of the student’s score lies, it’s of limited practical use.

Except for some outliers, most schools COP-median spread is within 5 points. In practical terms, there’s no significant difference (in terms of academic abilities) between two students separated by 5 points.

Just one question, on PSLE result day, will the form teacher issue the result slip+documents students-by-students? On avg how long it will take per student (2-3mins)? Coz, my DS is almost the last among 40 students… so curious whether we have to wait for more than an hour in school.

I took PSLE last year so hopefully this information would be of great use to you. In my primary school, the form teachers will issue the results slip. I have not received any further documents iirc. Timing depends on student: Some students might receive feedback from teachers while others (like me) get only 1 line or no lines. Do note that the principal will brief on how is the school's results in general and how to do S1 Posting so it may take an hour or longer if you start the timer from when you enter the hall.
