My boy is into roblox. I give him half an hour to play everyday but I feel that even after henfiniab playing, he still is in a dreamy state when revising until I flare up. But was thinking half an hour is already minimal and everyday when he comes home from sch, he already doesn’t have much time for other leisure, the only thing to have him enjoy a bit if what he does it play roblox for half an hour but if I also take away, he sure will grumble like mad

All children are like this. They must have game time yeah. Sometime totally prevent them from playing mobile games can have detrimental effect. They may find that they no longer "have a life". You know the feeling can be exaggerate to us adult but to them it is like their world. 30min of game time is rather reasonable, I would say. I would consider as a motivation factor. Just remind your boy to do his best and don’t slip. Find ways to bridge the gap.

Game addiction is a big problem in today's society and unfortunately the more time a child spend at the game, the more they will be drawn into it. The effect of gaming is not just the time spend playing the game, but rather the lost of interest in doing anything else.

Why don't you set a timetable with your son? Like tell him homework or revision takes priority and set a time to end work everyday? For my girls, I used to let them use their hp for half hour after reaching home , then hw or revision time till dinner time at 6+ then after that the entire night is theirs whatever they wanna do but they must sleep by 9+ everyday. So far it had worked well and seriously the night time is not conducive for studying anyway as the brain is tired.

Giving some time for fun each day is good and you should continue. Some (most?) kids do need to unwind when they get home from school - most of us do as well after a day of work. If he seems dreamy, perhaps schedule something more active before getting down to schoolwork - like a household chore, or a shower, or tidying his desk, or whatever. A schedule is good - I had one for my kids and it really helped to reduce nagging from me. I could just say, \"what should you be doing now?\" and point to the schedule (pinned on their notice board). After a while, it should become quite automatic, with only occasional reminders needed.

For my eldest who played sports and trained 5x a week at least with 4h each, it was impossible to stop work by dinner time as her free time started after dinner. So for her no choice, after dinner and bath, hw then sleep. Weekends after training then revision. Seriously sportsman doesn’t hv much time for hw or revision let alone go tuition or do tuition hw. It was only until dsa was over around August that she found time to accelerate b4 psle.

                    https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/parenting-education/picking-a-secondary-school-under-the-new-psle-scoring-system

Picking a secondary school under the new PSLE scoring system

Posting outcomes and tie-breakers in new system

With less differentiation in scores as compared with the T-score system, there will be some changes to the posting system and how ties will be broken if pupils have the same score.

If two pupils applying to a Special Assistance Plan (SAP) school have the same PSLE score, the one with better Higher Chinese grades will be allocated a place ahead of the other pupil.

Under the old system, pupils who take Higher Chinese get bonus points - ranging from one to three depending on their grade - when applying to SAP schools.

The next level of tie-breaker is citizenship status, where Singapore citizens get priority, followed by permanent residents and then international students. This is unchanged from the old system.

The choice order of schools will also play a more significant role than it used to. With the AL system, a pupil who indicates a school as his or her first choice will now get a place ahead of someone else with the same score but indicates it as a second or third choice.

Previously with the T-score system, which had more differentiation between pupils, the one with the higher unrounded T-score aggregate would be admitted first.

If there is still a tie-breaker after the above stages, computerised balloting will be done. This remains unchanged from the old system.
