Choosing a suitable school is your son's choice, neither his form teacher's recommendation nor parents' preferences. With a T-Score of 261, he should be able to enroll any of the schools (as a boy). So ask your son which school he really likes. If he prefers ACSI and put it as 1st choice, the 2nd to 6th choice will not matter any more as ACSI COP won't go up to 261.

Teachers / parents who are experienced / have done a fair bit of research / know your child well will be able to give good recommendations for the right fit of school. Also they are more experienced than many 12 year olds who probably wants to go to a school where their friends are going, or building / facilities / uniform / cca look nice, prestige , etc etc.

That's not to say that we force a child to choose a school not to his liking. We involve the child in the decision making process, giving them the pros and cons of each school and letting them take ownership of the decision made.

But it is wise to heed well-meaning recommendations / advice from trusted sources.

Agree with you, as a parent, we should base on our experience, research and child's characters to guide him / her in school selection. After all these are done, it will be still the child to make the decision as the child shall be happy in the school life.

Mind sharing you were from which school? Heard a Jurong neighbourhood school also churned out 20+ got >260 and 3 obtained >270. So remarkable!


But not my dc’s school around River Valley. Some cried in disappointments after getting their results.

i don’t think so? i’m not very good in my studies and didn’t study as much as i planned to but i got 244 .. and then 2 of my good friends expected 255-258 only but 1 got 256 and the other got 262! and 2 girls in my school got 270+, and much more got 250-269 .. so maybe it depends on the school ??

What if two students have the same score?
Singapore Citizens have priority in the case of a tied score. Between two students with the same citizenship, a tie is resolved by a computerised ballot with an equal chance for each student.

Does the order of school choice matter when there is a tie-break?
For the 2020 P6 cohort, the order in which a student lists their school choices does not give them priority in determining who gets a place.

For example, John and Mary are vying for the last place in School A. They:

Have the same aggregate score.
Are both Singapore Citizens.
John listed School A as his first choice and Mary listed it as her third. In this case, the posting will be determined by a computerised ballot with an equal chance for each student.

The Straits Times article is correct that pupils are ranked according to detailed aggregate PSLE scores that extend to decimal points. You can also refer to PM Lee's speech. Links for both are provided below.

But at the age of 12, one examination, four papers and you want to measure the child to so many decimal points and say well, this one got one point better than that child? It is a distinction which is meaningless and too fine to make.

Most, if not all, SAP schools will expect students to take HCL up to Sec 4.

Hi , My son got 259 +1. Our my choices are as follow:

We stay at Bishan and distance is our main concern. My son hopes to go to CHS very much as it is within 1km and EJC is directly opposite our house. What are our chances of getting into CHS?

1) CHS IP,
2) CHS O level,
3) Maris Stella (his primary school, no affiliation points since not first choice)
