Hi, if my son is enrolled into a SAP school using his HCL score, he must take HCL throughout secondary school? Or midway can opt out?
Most, if not all, SAP schools will expect students to take HCL up to Sec 4.

Hi , My son got 259 +1. Our my choices are as follow:

We stay at Bishan and distance is our main concern. My son hopes to go to CHS very much as it is within 1km and EJC is directly opposite our house. What are our chances of getting into CHS?

        1) CHS IP,
        2) CHS O level,
        3) Maris Stella (his primary school, no affiliation points since not first choice)
        4) Anderson
        5) Presbyterian High
        6) Kuo Chuan

very rare for a school's COP to increase by 8 points, so you have a good chance of getting into CHS

Your son not keen on RI since you are staying at Bishan? 50% chance though as COP may go up or down this year.

Thank you for your reply. Many people asked me why not Raffles? My husband and I want to let my son enjoy his secondary school years. We feel that Raffles may be too competitive and stressful for him.

                  Hi Doitlater,

You may like to consider HCI, which may be ‘culturally closer’ to CHS, as a SAP school. My son is not academically inclined at all, but he’s thoroughly enjoying HCI. He doesn’t find the environment to be overly competitive, and he’s actually used to a pretty laid back and loving school environment, as he was from a mission primary school (not a top mission primary school haha).

CHS is by any counts, a great school. But I would say, most parents are more familiar with RI or Hwa Chong for JC, than EJC, for Years 5 and 6. I have another child who is progressint to EJC, and I myself am wondering what the experience will be. EJC has less of a ‘track record’ given it is fairly new.

Regardless, congratulations on a fine performance!

Congrats, I think he will make it into his dream school!

Seems there are different views between MOE website and Straitstimes, not sure which one is correct about whether unrounded decimal point is a deciding factor. Just for discussion.

The Straits Times article is correct that pupils are ranked according to detailed aggregate PSLE scores that extend to decimal points. You can also refer to PM Lee's speech. Links for both are provided below.

But at the age of 12, one examination, four papers and you want to measure the child to so many decimal points and say well, this one got one point better than that child? It is a distinction which is meaningless and too fine to make.

Thanks for sharing the PM Lee speech and Straits Time article.

It actually doesn't matter whether the decimal point decides or the computer balloting decides. Deciding a child to school by just a so fine point is something not right, anyway this will be the last year of T-Score.

On the other hand, next year's AL system has wider range, it may eliminate the fine difference between students but again how to put school choice order is another headache for parents and for school, how to select student in a bigger pool of same AL score is also a something new.

“More than 50 years ago, my parents decided to send me to Catholic High School. I brought home the form from school when I was in Primary Six to fill in which schools to choose to go to secondary school. And to my surprise, my paprents filled in the Catholic High School.\"

(The speaker’s parents were both Raffles Institution alumni).

\"And they explained to me. They chose it because it was a Chinese-medium school. But it has high standards of both English and Chinese — bilingual. Also, it has strict discipline. Furthermore, it was a Catholic mission school... And they felt I would be quite safe in Catholic High School. And they were quite right.\"
