Hello,
Can any parents with existing child in this school share on the support level for IP students? Understand this will be based on individual student, are Teachers available/approachable for consultation especially in Maths/ Science subjects?

Actually I don't really have any basis to judge what the support level of IP is, but most girls in IP do fine, and yes, while the teacher quality is not uniform, I don't think my daughter has ever mentioned that any teacher is unapproproachable. Teachers can be approached for consultations (this probably applies to most schools).

During 1st year, we quit all tuitions and let DD1try on her own. Few months later, her form teacher rang us to discuss w us how to help DD as she wasn’t coping well. We then guided her along the way and luckily she did well in EOY exams.

Actually every year, I do receive 1 or 2 such calls from form/subject teachers if DD1 has problems. I appreciate that the teachers are watching over her.

In IP, Teachers touch and go. Students need to learn good time management and must have the initiative to ask teachers/friends for help if not clear. Generally, teachers there are approachable.

SCGS IP is not say very stressful and definitely not cut-throat environment, girls are generally very happy! The school gave the girls lots of opportunities even if they aren’t top girls. My girl applied for Bicultural Study Prog (BSP) and the school grant her a chance to try even thou her Chinese is not fantastic (avg B4 only). She likes it a lot and I am thankful.

Hi!

I did nothing to prepare my daughter for Sec 1 IP. No assessment books, no tuition.
So far, I have not received any calls from any teachers - who knows it may begin next year lol!
Then some time in Sec 1, DD failed some maths test. So I enrolled her in maths tuition. Other than that, I do not study with the kids, nor even look at their test or exam papers.
I second lee_yl's point that SCGS girls are generally happy, and the school environment is not cut throat or competitive. Quite a nice environment. Yet, I find that the girls are highly bright, capable, and they speak and express themselves well.
They are also given opportunities to serve the school, whether as an ambassador, prefect, young docent, or peer leaders, if they are interested in doing so.
I like the school spirit and environment
It was an extremely difficult decision for us as we were from a mission school and my dd qualified for MGS IB and other schools as well. But zero regrets
Oh yes, the school has what is to me, an extremely strict handphone usage policy.

I forgot to add, you do not need to be a top student to get opportunities to do various things in SCGS - this is something I appreciate. DD got her choice subject combination for Sec 3; she also got to participate in some events to rep the school, And my DD is just an average IP student. I find the peer influence good too, in spite of all my initial fears of a girls school (my kids were from a co-ed pri sch, and I was in a co-ed school all my life).

The Sec 1 Malacca trip is really fun, but unfortunately it was cancelled for the 2020 batch of Sec 1s due to Covid19.

Thanks for your replies! It is a relief to know that the environment is not cut throat, ultimately the joy of learning is important. 4 years is long.

I read on website that uniform is also sold in the bookshop.
#Are girls allowed to wear velcro shoes in SCGS?

Hi, I would like to ask about your opinion on these schools: SCGS (Ip, not O Level) and CGS. Both are close to home (though my child can cycle to CGS). With a T-score of 254, which do you think I should choose?

Cycle to school sounds dangerous to me. There is a newly built MRT (Steven station) underpass tunnel entrance/exit right next to SCGS! Crescent is not far from SCGS.

If I were you, with 254, I will definitely pick IP for my daughter, be it SCGS IP or other IP schools my kid qualifies. A math tutor told me, IP yr 4 and O level sec 4 students cannot be put in the same class for A-maths tuition because IP pace is much faster than O level. If your daughter qualifies for IP, you should stretch her potential.

I ask my DD1, if you were to choose again, you would want O level or IP track. Her answer is “IP”, because she wants to skip O level exam. Now we just focus on attacking A levels.

Hey, SCGS girls are confident and articulate, ok!
EJC maybe new but it has caught up so fast that the latest cut-off point for Science and Arts stream are on par with NJC and VJC.

Oh btw, the O level track in SCGS is also very good!
Even though SCGS takes in affiliated girls with lower tscore, the school produces stellar O level results. End of sec 2 in SCGS, top performing girls can apply to switch track to IP.
