      Hi all,
We are searching for unit to rent. But currently most landlord wants us to sign 2-year lease. Need your opinion on this.
      1. We plan to enrol our kid in Primary school , which is < 1KM next year. If it's successfully got in, then all are good. If the balloting fail, and our kid is assigned by MOE to school with vacancies, but more than 1KM school, is the unit address that is previously registered VOID? Because of the 2-year lease, we may need to break the lease and search for the rental nearby the assigned school. Can the school accept the new address?

      2. If we choose the unit to rent for 1-year lease. And assume my kid successfully got in the preferred school < 1KM. But my tenancy agreement due before 30 months stay - due to space constraint, can I move within the same area near to my child school , still within 1 KM? Need to reset another 30 months? 😂

      Thanks in advanced!
The address in your NRIC before start of registration, usually by 30-Jun, will be used for registration for all phases. Once you got in either of the phases, you can still move within the same or better distance. Eg. if you got it <1km, then you can move <1km.

You should sign at least 30 months lease to cover the MOE 30-month lock-in period. If you want to move in earlier than the June, then sign 2-year lease is safer for buffer.

Note how many months' notice period you need to give landlord to terminate the lease. Best if 1 month or 2 months. So if let's say you balloted in 2C but failed to get the seat, then you just give the required notice (or if really don't want to wait, pay the 1 or 2 months equivalent for compensation). Note that the notice period cuts both ways - landlord can also give you same 1 month or 2 months' notice to move out.

If your 2C balloting fails, your next phase will be 2CS. Usually these are less popular schools. MOE won't care which address you use cos there's no lock-in period for less popular schools (UNLESS the 2CS school also needs balloting).

If you want to sign a 1-year lease, fine also. But troublesome. Near the end of the lease, you can go hunt around for a rental unit (or buy a resale unit) next door can walk to the school. Or bigger unit if you wish. MOE allows you to move house within the same <1km radius to continue to finish up the 30-month lock-in period, no need to reset the 30 months.

Thanks! Helps us in the consideration factor of finding unit for rent. Meaning to say after registration, if need to move again within 1 km , I still need to update new address in NIRC and inform the school principal, correct?

Yes that’s right. Inform the school’s general office of any change in address. There will be a form to fill up and sign.

              Hi there,

I’m new here and I have a question.

We have just sold our place and we will be staying temporarily (Dec 2020) in the east at a relative place till our place is ready.

Our unit will be in the west and will be ready in Q3 2021.

We sign the letter of offer somewhere in October 2020.

Our kid will enrol for Primary 1 in 2023.

From now till Primary school enrolment is around 24 months. I understand that there is a minimum of 30 month which means we should change our address by July 2020.

Are we able to use the new address (west) for our kid enrolment in year 2020 if our are able to shift in by 2021?

              Thank you.

The rule is you must stay 30 months from registration starts in 2023, not before that. So you have no issue if move in 2021.

Once you change NRIC address, school should get it.

Hi, I understand that Primary 1 registration has moved online and the process is completed via SingPass.

The address of my new property that is under construction is within 1km of the desired school I would like to enroll.
If the registration is conducted via SingPass, it’ll reflect my current address on my NRIC which is not within 1km of the desired school.
Is there any way in the online registration for me to indicate the address of my new property? Thanks!

We don't know if this year will still be online only application yet. Wait for the announcement. There will be ways to upload or email the school during application.
