Please check with the school office. Do hear of the infrequent transfer. As it’s 100% DSA, the students have made a commitment to be the school for 6 years so I think it is a considered approach on all

sides to go through with the transfer process. The student also has to be prepared that MOE will assign you to the school (with vacancy) nearest to your address i.e. very unlikely you will transfer to another IP school.

Do consult the school as I understand the school is committed to get the kid through 6 years if they accept them under DSA. So, a practical option may be to retain a year to get the fundamentals right so you can move forward.

Hello all, could I check if the student struggle a lot would he/she be able to transfer out of NUSH to mainstream Sec school or they have to stay back in NUSH?
                  Which year ?

                  Work with the school teachers.
They are very helpful in identifying the problems and rendering help.

The fact that your child can enter NUSH means that there is a great level of potential to be be unearthed.
Just need to find ways to release this.

Agree. This is based on full assumption child is able (aptitude) and willing (attitude).
Most of the time , there are habits in the new secondary school environment which need to be coached/taught so the child gets better with proper study techniques/ time management / engagement with teachers.

On aptitude, this is why I caution not to “hothouse” the child for the NUSH entrance process. My child had a classmate who got in with an intensive DSA coaching programme by one of the DSA centres . He then opted not to take the offer as he doubted he could make it on his own thereafter. I can understand why a child needs to be coached on interview and showcase leadership/drama for the other IPs. However, to do so for NUSH will likely build doubts and dent the child’s confidence when ironically. they could have actually made it on their own. Y1-2 is accelerated Math and Science and the ante is upped significantly in Y3 so the child has to have the passion, motivation and self confidence like the rest of his peers. Even languages and humanities are not on standard IP /Express. If the child made it it to NUSH on his own then , the school should be able to guide him back on track.

On hot housing - this is the time of year when the forum will start to have questions on the DSA process. The queries about what *exact* interview question and topic will pop up invariably ...
I think most here are very helpful with regards to the format and process especially since CoVid developments. Meanwhile, I hope the parents requesting for interview questions and practice papers ( if they exist !!! ) understand the reticence here over the “actual” specifics for interview content is in fact meant for the good of their child.

DSA for NUSH is not just about the ability to do well in the written papers. That is just one of the components.

There is also a workshop for selected students
The workshop will also surface out team players and leadership qualities.
