Most of the schools used to hold their usual open house between April - Jul.

With the current situation, most of these schools have opted for e-Open House instead.

Thanks for the advice Davischew and Floppy. Any particular reason why I should go for CHIJ Katong vs Ngee Ann, since they can go Ngee Ann too? E.g. all girls school is better, not so good for girls to go ngee ann, grades, culture, etc?

Yes, the reason (at least for me) has to do with the affiliated secondary school - not about THE school but rather, the TYPE of school.

Most people generally acknowledged that studying in single gender schools are better, especially at the secondary level. Could be due to lesser BGR distraction, or that being with those of similar gender allows them to grow / develop without gender stereotyping etc. Whatever the reasons, single gender secondary schools are very popular, as reflected in the COP. For girls, the minimum score without affiliation is ~230 (not very high, but not low either). While the AL score is likely to change this somewhat, there’s no reason to believe that single gender schools will become less popular.

Therefore, if you could secure a foothold in a primary school with affiliation to a girl’s school, that would be advantageous and open up more possibilities in future.

Hi Floppy, I see! I came from a girls’ sec school myself but don’t seem to realise the importance til you said it. Okay that really helps us in our planning.. thanks much! Appreciate lots.

Does anyone here knows about Mee Toh School?

I’m curious - why is MTS so popular?
I heard that there’s Higher Chinese, is this subject compulsory?

Never heard of this school before. Where is it located? :scratchhead:

Every student in Singapore needs to study a Mother Tongue language. Higher Chinese is offered in all schools to students with a strong proficiency in Chinese. For most schools, HCL will be offered to such students from P5 onwards but there are a number of schools (such as MTS) that had chosen to offer HCL from P1. For SAP schools, HCL is compulsory from P1.

That school is in my consideration since it’s beside my block but I’m not keen to let my child take HCL because she’s quite weak in that language.

For schools that offer HCL in P1, you can't opt for normal CL until P5. A quick way of telling SAP / non-SAP schools apart: SAP schools don't offer any other MTL except HCL / CL, whereas non-SAP schools offer other MTL (in MTS case, Malay).

MTS is popular because it's the oldest school in Punggol (founded in 1954, shifted from Kallang to Punggol in 2005). Therefore, it's also the only school in Punggol with a consistent \"track record\" for PSLE. Unfortunately, MTS made the headlines last year for a high profile bullying case, in which the Min of Education had to step in and comment about it.
