In my son's batch, a good number opted to take the O level Chinese at the end of Sec 3. (My son included even though it wasn't compulsory for him to.) They are getting their results back tomorrow. Lol 🙂

My son is really weak in Chinese, he was a 70s student in P5 and P6, never took HCL in primary school. He's probably one of the lousiest in his cohort already but he was not made to do the O level Chinese and did not fail in Sec 1-3 EOYs. So in response to phtthp's question, I don't really know what happens to kids who fail in Sec 1-3, but I do assume the number is none to a very small number.

Seems like it's a good idea for the boys to sit for the exam, to get a sense of the chinese papers standard.

All the best for your boy's result tomorrow!

I believe the boys are prepped well for the HCL Sec 4 exams but for the Sec 3 O levels Chinese, i dont recall intensive preparation I think simply because not many students take it or are asked to take it.

My other child in another IP programme - school does not open the option of taking O level Chinese at the end of Sec 3. Different schools have different policies. Most HCI boys who take it in Sec 3, and not as a serious exam like the EOYs.

Unfortunately, I don't have any specifics yet on what they are doing (they start next week). I am not sure on the final student count either, although the original notice mentioned about 60 students.
